The Revelation of the Book from Allah the Most Powerful Omniscient.

غفر ذَنْب قَبِلَ تاب شَدَّ عَقَبَ ذُو طَالَ إِله صَارَ


Forgiver of sins, Acceptor of repentance, Almighty firm to follow with the unbounded extension to pursue punishment. There is no God except Him. The return is to Him.

جدل آ ىي -آية إِله كَفَرَ غَرَّ قلب فِي بَلَدَ


None disputes the verses-signs of Allah except those who are nonbelievers. Their walking in the town should not deceive you. (Activities of nonbelievers look normal, like walking in the city, that should not deceive you that Allah will not Judge them).

كَذَبَ قَبِلَ قَامَ حَزَبَ بعُد هَمَّ كُلّ أمّ رَسِلَ أَخَذَ جدل بَطَلَ دَحَضَ حَقَّ أَخَذَ كَيدَ كَانَ عَقَبَ


The nation of Noah denied before them, and the confederates after them. Every nation planned to seize its messengers. They disputed (quarreled, argued with messengers) to defeat the truth with their falsehood. Then (but) I seized them. What a punishment it was!

وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus

This is how the Word of your Rabb is justified on those who disbelieved; they are companions of the Fire.

حَمَلَ عَرَشَ حَالَ سبح رَبَّ أمُن غفر أَ مُنَ رَبَّ وَسُعَ كُلّ شِاءَ رَحِمَ علِم غفر تاب تبِع سَبَلَ وقى عَذُبَ جحم


Those who carry the Throne and those around it glorify the praises of their Rabb and believe in Him and seek forgiveness for those who believe. (praising Him how far He is from imperfection) “O our Rabb, You have encompassed everything in Mercy and Knowledge; forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and save them from the punishment of Hell.

رَبَّنَا Our Lord!

رَبَّ دَخَلَ جنّ عَدْن وَعَدَ صَلَحَ أَب زَاجَ ذَرَّ عَزَّ حَكَمَ


Our Rabb, enter them in Gardens of Paradise, which You have promised them, and whoever did righteous deeds among their forefathers, spouses, and offspring. You are the Most Powerful, the Wisest.

40:9


وَقِهِمُ And protect them

الْفَوْزُ (is) the success

الْعَظِيمُ the great

وقى سَا ءَ وقى سَا ءَ رَحِمَ فَازَ عَظُمَ


And guard them against evil deeds. Whoever You protected from the misfortune of that Day, he is the one You have Mercy on. And that is the greatest success.”

40:10


إِنَّ Indeed

فَتَكْفُرُونَ and you disbelieved

كَفَرَ ندا مقت إِله كَبَرَ مقت نفُس دَعَا يَمَنَ كَفَرَ


Those who disbelieve will be called upon that, “The hate of Allah is greater than your hate of yourselves when you were called for the belief, but you did not believe.” (now you are hating yourself? but Allah hated you more when you denied the opportunity to become believers).

40:11


قَالُواْ They (will) say

١١

قَالَ رَبَّ مَاتَ ثنى حي ثنى عَرَفَ ذَنْب خرج سَبَلَ


They will say, “Our Rabb, You gave us death twice, and You gave us life twice. Now we accept our sins. So, is there any way out?” (Note: Two lives are, 1st this life and 2nd resurrection on the day of judgment, however, for non-believers, there are two deaths, one end of this life and also being in Hell is like more than death. But for believers, there is only one death. Allah knows Best).

40:12


ذَٰلِكُم That

Thalikum

بِأَنَّهُۥٓ (is) because

الْكَبِيرِ the Most Great

١٢

دَعَا إِلَٰه أحد كَفَرَ شَرِكَ أمُن حَكَمَ إِلَٰه عَلَا كَبَرَ


That is because when Allah alone was called upon (mentioned), you disbelieved, but when you made a partner with Him, you believed. The judgment of Allah is the Highest and the Greatest.

40:13


هُوَ He

Huwa

الَّذِى (is) the One Who

يُرِيكُمْ shows you

اٰيَاتِهِۦ His Signs

وَيُنَزِّلُ and sends down

رَأَى آ ىي -آية نَزَلَ سَمَا رَزَقَ ذَكّرَ نَابَ


He shows you His signs and sends provisions of life from the sky (heaven) for you. "And (but) only those who repent will remember."

فَادْعُوا So invoke

دَعَا إِلَٰه خَلَصَ دَنَا كَرِهَ كَفَرَ


So, call upon Allah with sincerity (integrity, devotion, faithfully) according to His religion, even if nonbelievers detest it.

رَفَعَ دَرَجَ ذُو عَرَشَ لقِي رَاحَ أمر شِاءَ عَبَدَ نَذَرَ يوْم لقِي


Exalted in Rank, Owner of the Throne. He conveys (puts) the divine (message) with His command to whomever He wants among His worshippers to warn of a Day of encounter (of the meeting on Judgement Day).

يوْم بَرَزَ خَفَيَ إِله شِاءَ ملك يوْم إِلَٰه أ حد قَهَرَ


On the day they appear, nothing about them will be hidden from Allah. “To Whom belongs the kingdom of that Day, Allah, only One, the Almighty who subdues everything.”

يوْم جَزَى كُلّ نفُس كَسَبَ ظَلَمَ يوْم إِلَٰه سَرُعَ حَسَبَ


On that Day, every soul will be rewarded with what they have earned. There will be no injustice on that Day. Allah is Fast in keeping accounts.

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ And warn them

نَذَرَ يوْم قلب لدى حَنَاجِرُ كَشَفَ ظَلَمَ حَمَّ شَفَعَ طَاعَ


And warn them that the Day (of Judgment) is coming closer, when the hearts will reach their throats in grieve, and the unjust will have no friend, intercessor, or helper to obey (listen, help).

يَعْلَمُ He knows

"He knows the treachery in (people's) eyes and understands what they hide in their hearts."

وَٱللّٰهُ And Allah

إِلَٰه قَضَى حَقَّ دَعَا دُون قَضَى شِاءَ إِلَٰه سَمَعَ بصُر


And Allah Judges (Decides) with the truth, and those they call other than Allah cannot judge (do not judge) anything. Allah, Who is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing.

سَارَ فِي أَ رَضْ نَظَرَ كَيدَ كَانَ عَقَبَ كَانَ قَبِلَ كَانَ شَدَّ قَوِيَ أثر فِي أَ رَضْ أَخَذَ إِلَٰه ذَنْب كَانَ إِله وقى


Do they not travel on the earth and see the punishment for those before them? They were stronger than them and left more impressions (more significant impact) on the earth. But Allah seized them due to their sins, and no one could protect them from Allah.

ذَٰلِكَ That

الْعِقَابِ (in) punishment

٢٢

كَانَ أتى رَسِلَ بَا نَ كَفَرَ أَخَذَ إِلَٰه قَوِيَ شَدَّ عَقَبَ


That is because Messengers came to them with clear signs, but they were unjust (denied the Messengers), so Allah held them. He is the Most Powerful and Severe in Punishment.

وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا We sent

رَسِلَ آ ىي -آية سُلَط بَا نَ


And indeed, We sent Musa with Our signs and clear authority (proof).

40:24


إِلَىٰ To

Ila

فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun

وَهَامَانَ Haman

wahamana

وَقَارُونَ and Qarun

waqaroona

فَقَالُوا but they said

faqaloo

سَاحِرٌ A magician

sahirun
س ح ر
كَذَّابٌ a liar

kaththabun
ك ذ ب
٢٤

قَالَ سَحَرَ كَذَبَ


To Firon, Haman, and Qaroon. But they said, “(Musa is) a lying magician.”

40:25


فَلَمَّا Then when

الْكَافِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers

ضَلَالٍ error

جَاءَ حَقَّ عَنَدَ قَالَ قَتَلَ اِبْن أَ مُنَ حي نَسَأَ كَيدَ كَفَرَ فِي ضلّ


Then, when he came to them with the truth from Us, they said, “Slaughter the sons of those who believed in him and spare their women.” But the plan of the nonbelievers was only a falsehood (an error).

40:26


وَقَالَ And said

قَالَ وَزَرَ قَتَلَ دَعَا رَبَّ أ خو بَدَلَ دين ظهر فِي أَ رَضْ فَسَدَ


And Firon said, “Leave me; I will kill Musa and let him call his Rabb. I fear they will change your way of life (religion) or spread mischief on the earth.”

وَقَالَ And said

قَالَ عاذ رَبَّ رَبَّ كُلّ كَبَرَ أمُن يوْم حَسَبَ


And Musa said, “I seek refuge with my Rabb and your Rabb against every tyrant who does not believe in the Day of the Account.”

قَالَ رَجِلَ أمُن اول كَتَمَ أمُن قَتَلَ رَجِلَ قَالَ رَبَّ إِلَٰه جَاءَ بَا نَ رَبَّ كَانَ كَذَبَ كَذَبَ كَانَ صَدَقَ صاب بَعَضَ عاد إِلَٰه هَدَى سَرَف كَذَبَ


And a believing man from the family of Firon who was hiding his belief said, “Are you going to kill a man who says, ‘My Rabb is Allah,’ and he came with clear proofs from your Rabb? If he is a liar, on him his lies (his work of lies will come back to him), but if he is truthful, you will suffer from some of what is promised to you. Allah does not guide who is an excessive (and) liar.

قَامَ ملك يوْم ظهر فِي أَ رَضْ نَصَرَ بَأْ س- بَؤُ سَ إِله جَاءَ قَالَ رَأَى رَأَى هَدَى سَبَلَ رَشَدَ


O, my nation! Today for you is the kingdom (what you see as) evident on the earth, but who will help us (when) Allah will make us suffer (the punishment) when it comes to us?” Firon said, “I only show you what I see and guide you the right way.”

وَقَالَ And said

The one who had believed said, “O my nation, I fear for you as the day of confederates (reckoning came to the earlier groups).

مَثَلَ دأب قَامَ عاد بعُد إِلَٰه رَادَ ظَلَمَ عَبَدَ


Like the persistent habit (of denying the messengers) of the nation of Noah, Aad, and Samood and those after them, Allah does not desire to do injustice to His slaves.

وَيَاقَوْمِ And O my people!

O my nation, I fear for you the Day of the meeting.

The Day when you turn away and flee, no one will protect you from Allah. Whomsoever Allah leaves misguided, then there is nobody to guide him.”

جَاءَ قَبِلَ بَا نَ زَلَّ فِي شَكَّ جَاءَ هَلَكَ قَالَ بعث إِلَٰه بعُد رَسِلَ ضلّ إِلَٰه سَرَف رَابَ


And indeed, Yusuf came to you before with clear signs, but you slipped into doubt about what came to you. Until he died, you said, “Allah will never raise a Messenger after this.” Like that, Allah leaves them misguided, those who exceed (and) doubt.

جدل آ ىي -آية إِله غير سُلَط أتى كَبَرَ مقت عَنَدَ إِله عَنَدَ أَ مُنَ طَبَعَ إِلَٰه كُلّ قلب كَبَرَ جَبَرَ


Those who dispute the signs of Allah without authority that has come to them are immensely hated near Allah and believers. Like that, Allah stamps out the heart of every arrogant tyrant.

وَقَالَ And said

قَالَ اِبْن صَرُحَ بلغ سَبَّ


And Firon said, “O Haman, build for me a palace so that maybe I will reach with the means (tower, rope).

40:37


أَسْبَابَ (The) ways

وَصُدَّ and he was averted

سَبَّ سما طَلَعَ إِله ظَنَّ كَذَبَ زَانَ سَا ءَ عَمِلَ صَدَّ سَبَلَ كَيدَ فِي تَبَّ


Means to reach the skies so I may come up to the God of Musa, though I think he is a liar.” That is how We presented evil deeds favorable for Firon and prevented him from the path (of guidance). The conspiracy of Firon was only for destruction.

وَقَالَ And said

قَالَ أَ مُنَ قَامَ تبِع هَدَى سَبَلَ رَشَدَ


He who believed (in the teachings of Musa) said, “O my nation, follow me, and I will guide you to the right way.”

قَامَ حي دَنَا مَتَعَ أخر دَارَ قَرَأَ


“O my nation, nothing is in the life of this world but (temporary) enjoyment with provisions, but the Hereafter is the Place of Permanence.

عَمِلَ سَا ءَ جَزَى مَثَلَ عَمِلَ صَلَحَ ذَكّرَ أَنُثَ أمُن دَخَلَ جنّ رَزَقَ غير حَسَبَ


Whoever did evil will be rewarded only equivalent to that. But whoever did righteous deeds, male or female, and is a believer, will be entered into the Gardens of Paradise, where they will be provided provisions without an account.

وَيَاقَوْمِ And O my people!

Oh, my nation, What do I have? It is that I call you towards salvation (safety), and you call me towards the Fire?

دَعَا كَفَرَ إِلَٰه شَرِكَ لَيْسَ علِم دَعَا عَزَّ غفر


You call me to be unjust with Allah and for me to make partners with Him that I do not know of, while I call you towards the Most Powerful, the Most Forgiving.

There is no doubt that what (path) you call me has no case (appeal) in this world or the Hereafter, and we will all return to Allah. The transgressors (wrongdoers) will be the companions of the Fire.

فَسَتَذْكُرُونَ And you will remember

ذَكّرَ قَالَ فَاضَ أمر إِله إِلَٰه بصُر عَبَدَ


Then, soon you will remember what I say to you, so I entrust (delegate) my matter (affairs) to Allah. Allah is All-Seeing to His worshippers.

فَوَقَاهُ So protected him

وقى إِلَٰه سَا ءَ مَكَرَ حاق اول سَا ءَ عَذُبَ


So, Allah protected him from the evils of what they tempted while surrounding the family of Firon with a grievous punishment.

نَار عَرُضَ غَدَا عَشَا يوْم قَامَ سَاعته دَخَلَ اول شَدَّ عَذُبَ


The Fire. It is presented on them in the mornings and evenings. And on the Day, the Time will stand: The people of Firon will enter to more severe punishment.”

حَجَّ فِي نَار قَالَ ضَعَفَ كَبَرَ كَانَ تبِع غنِي نَصَبَ نَار


As they will dispute in the Fire, the weaker will say to those who were deemed greater, “We were your followers; can you manage (save) us from sharing (a part) of the Fire?”

Those who were arrogant will say, “We are all in this (together); Allah has judged between His slaves.”

And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, “Call to your Rabb to decrease the punishment from us for a day.”

They will say, “Did your Messengers not come to you with clear signs?” They will say, “Yes.” They will say, “Then call, and the call of the ungrateful will only be in loss.”

Indeed, surely, We will help Our Messengers and those who believe in the life of this world, and on the Day, the witnesses will stand.

The day when there is no benefit for the unjust for their excuses. For them are a curse and a home of misery.

أتى هَدَى وَرَثَ اِبْن كَتَبَ


And indeed, We guided Musa and made the children of Israel inheritors of the Book.

صَبَرَ وَعَدَ إِله حَقَّ غفر ذَنْب سبح رَبَّ عَشَا بَكَى


So, be patient. The promise of Allah is truth. And ask for forgiveness of your sins and glorify Him with praise in the nights and the mornings.

جدل آ ىي -آية إِله غير سُلَط أتى فِي صدر كَبَرَ بلغ عاذ إِلَٰه سَمَعَ بصُر


Indeed, those who dispute the signs-verses of Allah without (any) authority (proof) coming to them, in their hearts is only arrogance (that they think they are better, higher rank), which they will never attain (greatness). So, seek forgiveness from Allah, for He is All Listening and Has Keen Insight.

Surely, the creation of the universe and the earth is bigger than creating humankind, but many humans do not know.

سَوِيَ عَمِيَ بصُر أَ مُنَ عَمِلَ صَلَحَ سَا ءَ قَلَّ ذَكّرَ


It is not equal, the blind and the seeing. Nor are those who believe and do righteous deeds (similar) to the evildoers. How little is what you remember (learn)?

Indeed, the Time will come. There is no doubt about this, but many of humankind do not believe it.

قَالَ رَبَّ دَعَا جاب كَبَرَ عَبَدَ دَخَلَ دَاخَ


And your Rabb Said, “Call me, and I will answer you. But those who are too arrogant to worship Me will be humiliated into Hell (forcibly).”

إِلَٰه جعل لَيْل سَكَنَ فِي نهر بصُر إِلَٰه ذُو فَضَلَ أَنِسَ كَثَرَ أَنِسَ شَكَرَ


Allah is the One who created the night for tranquility and the day for you to see (perceive, discern). Allah is generous to humankind, but humankind does not thank (Him).

اللهُ (is) Allah

إِلَٰه رَبَّ خَلَقَ كُلّ شِاءَ إِله أنى أَفَكَ


That is Allah, your Rabb, (and) Creator of everything. There is no god except Him; so, where do you separate?

إِلَٰه جعل أَ رَضْ قَرَّ سَمَا اِبْن صور حَسَنَ صور رَزَقَ طَابَ إِلَٰه رَبَّ بَرَكَ إِلَٰه رَبَّ علِم


Allah is the One who made the earth a resting place for you and made the sky. And gave you shape (appearance, fashion), good shape (improved your body), and provided you with means of livelihood from the good. That is Allah, your Rabb; so, blessed is Allah, Rabb of the universe.

الْحَىُّ (is) the Ever-Living

There is no god except Him. He lives forever. So, call (follow) Him purely for His religion. Praise for Allah, Rabb of the universe.

Say, "I am forbidden from worshipping those you call other than Allah. Now that clear proofs have come to me from my Rabb, I'm ordered to submit to the Rabb of the universe."

Huwa

الَّذِى (is) the One Who

خَلَقَ تَرِبَ نَطَفَ عَلِقَ خرج طَفْل بلغ شَدَّ كَانَ شَاخَ وَفَى قَبِلَ بلغ أجل سَمِي عَقَلَ


He is the One who created you from the dust (earth, dirt, soil), then from the sperm, and then from the hanging (embryo implantation), brought you out as an infant, then you reach to become strong (youth, adulthood), then you become old age. Some of you are given death sooner to an appointed time (end of the human life cycle) so that you may understand.

هُوَ He

Huwa

الَّذِى (is) the One Who

فَيَكُونُ and it is

حي مَاتَ قَضَى أمر قَالَ كَانَ كَانَ


He is the one who gives life and death. When He decides something, He Says, "Be," and it happens.

أَلَمْ Do not?

رَأَى جدل آ ىي -آية إِله أنى صَرَفَ


Do you not see those who dispute in the verses-signs of Allah? Where do they turn away?

الَّذِينَ Those who

كَذَبَ كَتَبَ رَسِلَ رَسِلَ علِم


Those who reject the scripture and that which We Sent through our messengers will soon come to know (the consequences).

غَلَّ عَنِقَ سَلْسَلَ سَحَبَ


The iron collars will be around their necks and chains to drag them.

الْحَمِيمِ the boiling water

Into the heat and then in the Fire, they will be pulled (dragged).

With other than Allah?” They will say, “We were going astray from that. We were not calling before this to anything.” That is how Allah left the ungrateful astray.

40:75


ذَٰلِكُم That was

That is what you were happy with on the earth without justification and with what you were rejoicing (happy, satisfied).

دَخَلَ بَا ب خَلَدَ بَأْ س- بَؤُ سَ ثوى كَبَرَ


Enter the gates of Hell to live therein forever. What a miserable place for the arrogant.

فَاصْبِرْ So be patient

يُرْجَعُونَ they will be returned

صَبَرَ وَعَدَ إِله حَقَّ رَأَى بَعَضَ عَدَّ وَفَى رَجَعَ


So, be patient. The promise of Allah is the truth. Then if, We show you some of what We promised them, or We give you death, towards Us they will be returned.

رَسِلَ رَسِلَ قَبِلَ قصّ قصّ كَانَ رَسِلَ أتى آ ىي -آية أَذن إِله جَاءَ أمر إِله قَضَى حَقَّ خَسِرَ بَطَلَ


We sent Messengers before you. Some of them whom We have narrated to you and some of them whom We have not narrated to you. It is not for any Messenger that a verse (sign) comes except with the permission of Allah. Then, when the order of Allah comes, it is decided with justice, and falsehood is lost there.

اللهُ Allah

الَّذِى (is) the One Who

لِتَرْكَبُوا that you may ride

تَأْكُلُونَ you eat

إِلَٰه جعل نَعَمَ رَكِبَ أكل


Allah is the One Who made grazing livestock, some for you to ride and some to eat.

وَلَكُمْ And for you

نَفَعَ بلغ حَجَّ فِي صدر فَلَكَ حَمَلَ


And there are profits for you in them, and through them, you satisfy your needs to (ride) reach where you plan. And (to ride) on them, and the ships, how you are carried.

وَيُرِيكُمْ And He shows you

اٰيَاتِهِۦ His Signs

اللهِ (of) Allah

رَأَى آ ىي -آية آ ىي -آية إِله نَكِرَ


And He shows you His signs. So, which of the signs of Allah are you denying?

سَارَ فِي أَ رَضْ نَظَرَ كَيدَ كَانَ عَقَبَ قَبِلَ كَانَ كَثَرَ شَدَّ قَوِيَ أثر فِي أَ رَضْ غَنِيَ كَانَ كَسَبَ


Do they not travel on Earth to see the results of those before them? They were more and stronger in power than them and more influential on the Earth. But what they earned was no benefit (use) for them.

40:83


فَلَمَّا Then when

جَآءَتْهُمْ came to them

بِهِۦ [at it]

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ mock

٨٣

جَاءَ رَسِلَ بَا نَ فَرِحَ عَنَدَ علِم حاق كَانَ هَزِىءَ


When their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they (denied and) were happy (content) with what was with them from the knowledge (from previous generations), and mockery (of messengers) surrounded them.

40:84


فَلَمَّا So when

رَأَى بَأْ س- بَؤُ سَ قَالَ أَ مُنَ إِلَٰه أحد كَفَرَ كَانَ شَرِكَ


Then, when they saw Our calamity, they said, “We believe in Allah only, and we deny with what we were making partners.”

40:85


فَلَمْ But did not

الْكَافِرُونَ the disbelievers

٨٥

كَانَ نَفَعَ يَمَنَ رَأَى بَأْ س- بَؤُ سَ سَنَّ إِله خَلَا فِي عَبَدَ خَسِرَ كَفَرَ


Then (but) their belief was not going to be profitable for them (to be beneficial after) when they saw Our calamity. This is the way of Allah (for those who are) passed, bygone (of time) in dealing with His slaves. There is a loss for the ungrateful over there.
