90:1


لَآ Nay!

La

أُقْسِمُ I swear

بِهَٰذَا by this

bihatha

الْبَلَدِ city

albaladi

قَسَمَ بَلَدَ


I take an oath of this town.

وَأَنتَ And you

Waanta

حِلٌّ (are) free (to dwell)

بِهَٰذَا in this

bihatha

الْبَلَدِ city

حَلَّ بَلَدَ


And you are clear to settle down in this town.

90:3


وَوَالِدٍ And the begetter

Wawalidin

وَمَا and what

wama

وَلَدَ he begot

وَلَدَ وَلَدَ


And by father and those given birth.

لَقَدْ Certainly

Laqad

خَلَقْنَا We have created

الْإِنسَانَ man

فِى (to be) in

كَبَدٍ hardship

خَلَقَ أَنِسَ فِي كَتَبَ


We created humankind to endure.

أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think?

يَقُولُ He will say

أَهْلَكْتُ I have squandered

مَالًا wealth

لُّبَدًا abundant

قَالَ هَلَكَ مَال لَبَدَ


He says, “I have spent weighted (lots of) wealth.”

أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think?

أَلَمْ Have not?

نَجْعَل We made

Have We not given two eyes to him?

وَلِسَانًا And a tongue

وَشَفَتَيْنِ and two lips

لَسِنَ شَفاً


And a tongue and two lips?

وَهَدَيْنَاهُ And we shown him

النَّجْدَيْنِ the two ways

هَدَى نَجَدَ


And We guided him with two reinforcements?

فَلَا But not

Fala

اقْتَحَمَ he has attempted

الْعَقَبَةَ the steep path

قَحَمَ عَقَبَ


But he has not embarked boldly to the steep path.

وَمَآ And what?

أَدْرَاكَ can make you know

الْعَقَبَةُ the steep path (is)

دَرَك عَقَبَ


And what do you comprehend of the steep path?

فَكُّ (It is) freeing

To set a slave free.

أَوْ Or

Aw

إِطْعَامٌ feeding

مَسْغَبَةٍ severe hunger

طَعِمَ فِي يوْم ذُو سَغَبَ


Or feeding a meal on a day to the hungry.

يَتِيمًا An orphan

Orphans near of kin.

أَوْ Or

Aw

مِسْكِينًا a needy person

مسكن تَرِبَ


Or poor with poverty.

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

الَّذِينَ those who

اٰمَنُواْ believe

وَتَوَاصَوْا and enjoin (each other)

و ص ي
بِالصَّبْرِ to patience

وَتَوَاصَوْا and enjoin (each other)

و ص ي
بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ to compassion

١٧

كَانَ أَ مُنَ وصِي صَبَرَ وصِي رَحِمَ


Then those who are among believers advise to remain patient and give counsel to have mercy.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those

Olaika

أَصْحَابُ (are the) companions

الْمَيْمَنَةِ (of) the right (hand)

صَحِبَ يَمَنَ


Those are the companions of the right hand.

وَالَّذِينَ But those who

Waallatheena

كَفَرُوا disbelieve

بِاٰيَاتِنَا in Our Verses

هُمْ they

أَصْحَابُ (are the) companions

الْمَشْأَمَةِ (of) the left (hand)

كَفَرَ آ ىي -آية صَحِبَ شْأَمَ


But as for those who did not believe in Our signs, they are the companions of the sinister.

عَلَيْهِمْ Over them

نَارٌ (will be the) Fire

Upon them, the Fire will be closed shut.
