84:1


إِذَا When

Itha

السَّمَآءُ the sky

انشَقَّتْ is split asunder

سَمِي شَقَّ


When the sky splits open.

84:2


وَأَذِنَتْ And has listened

Waathinat
أ ذ ن
لِرَبِّهَا to its Lord

وَحُقَّتْ and was obligated

wahuqqat

أَذن رَبَّ حَقَّ


And it listened to its Rabb; it is obliged.

84:3


وَإِذَا And when

Waitha

الْأَرْضُ the earth

مُدَّتْ is spread

أَ رَضْ مدّ


And when the earth is spread out.

84:4


وَأَلْقَتْ And has cast out

Waalqat

مَا what

فِيهَا (is) in it

feeha

وَتَخَلَّتْ and becomes empty

watakhallat

لقِي خَلَّ


And it will throw out whatever is in it and will become empty.

84:5


وَأَذِنَتْ And has listened

Waathinat
أ ذ ن
لِرَبِّهَا to its Lord

وَحُقَّتْ and was obligated

أَذن رَبَّ حَقَّ


And it listened to its Rabb; it is obliged.

84:6


يَاأَيُّهَا O

Yaayyuha

الْإِنسَانُ mankind!

إِنَّكَ Indeed you

innaka

كَادِحٌ (are) laboring

kadihun

إِلَىٰ to

ila

رَبِّكَ your Lord

rabbika
ر ب ب
كَدْحًا (with) exertion

kadhan
ك د ح
فَمُلَاقِيهِ and you (will) meet Him

famulaqeehi
ل ق ي
٦

أَنِسَ كَادَ رَبَّ كَدَّ لقِي


O humankind! You exert yourself in labor towards your Rabb, toiling to meet Him.

84:7


فَأَمَّا Then as for

Faama

مَنْ (him) who

man

أُوتِىَ is given

ootiya
أ ت ي
كِتَابَهُۥ his record

kitabahu
ك ت ب
بِيَمِينِهِ in his right (hand)

biyameenihi
ي م ن
٧

أتى كَتَبَ يَمَنَ


As for him, who is given his book in his right hand.

84:8


فَسَوْفَ Then soon

Fasawfa

يُحَاسَبُ his account will be taken

حِسَابًا an account

hisaban
ح س ب
يَسِيرًا easy

yaseeran

حَسَبَ حَسَبَ سَارَ


Soon he will recon; his account will be easy.

84:9


وَيَنقَلِبُ And he will return

Wayanqalibu

إِلَىٰٓ to

ila

أَهْلِهِۦ his people

ahlihi
أ ه ل
مَسْرُورًا happily

قلب أهَلَ سَرَّ


And he will return to his family happy.

84:10


وَأَمَّا But as for

Waamma

مَنْ (him) who

man

أُوتِىَ is given

ootiya
أ ت ي
كِتَابَهُۥ his record

kitabahu
ك ت ب
وَرَآءَ behind

waraa
و ر ي
ظَهْرِهِۦ his back

thahrihi
ظ ه ر
١٠

أتى كَتَبَ رَأَى ظهر


But as for him, who is given his book behind his back.

84:11


فَسَوْفَ Then soon

Fasawfa

يَدْعُوا he will call

ثُبُورًا (for) destruction

دَعَا ثَبَرَ


Soon he will ask for destruction.

84:12


وَيَصْلَىٰ And he will burn

سَعِيرًا (in) a Blaze

وَصَلَ سَعَرَ


And will burn in flames.

84:13


إِنَّهُۥ Indeed he

Innahu

مَسْرُورًا happy

كَانَ أهَلَ سَرَّ


He used to be happy with his family.

إِنَّهُۥ Indeed he

Innahu

ظَنَّ (had) thought

He considered that he would never return.

بَلَىٰٓ Yes!

Bala

إِنَّ Indeed

رَبَّهُۥ his Lord

بَصِيرًا All-Seer

رَبّ كَانَ بصُر


In fact, his Rabb used to watch him.

فَلَآ But nay!

Fala

أُقْسِمُ I swear

بِالشَّفَقِ by the twilight glow

قَسَمَ شَفِقَ


Then no, I take oath on the dawn break.

وَالَّيْلِ And the night

وَمَا and what

وَسَقَ it envelops

لَيْل وسق


And by the night when it gets in full order.

84:18


وَالْقَمَرِ And the moon

اتَّسَقَ it becomes full

قَمَرَ وسق


And by the moon when it gets in full order.

84:19


لَتَرْكَبُنَّ You will surely embark

رَكِبَ طَبَقَ طَبَقَ


You will engage (pursue, advance) layer by layer.

فَمَا So what?

Fama

لَهُمْ (is) for them

يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe

Then, what is with them that they do not believe?

وَإِذَا And when

Waitha

قُرِئَ is recited

الْقُرْاٰنُ the Quran

يَسْجُدُونَ they prostrate

قَرَأَ قَرَأَ سَجَدَ


And when the Quran is recited to them, they do not bow down? ۩ Prostration

84:22


بَلِ Nay!

Bali

الَّذِينَ Those who

allatheena

كَفَرُواْ disbelieved

kafaroo

يُكَذِّبُونَ deny

yukaththiboona
ك ذ ب

كَفَرَ كَذَبَ


But those who are ungrateful are lying.

84:23


وَٱللّٰهُ And Allah

WaAllahu
أ ل ه
أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing

aAAlamu
ع ل م
بِمَا of what

bima

يُوعُونَ they keep within themselves

yooAAoona
و ع ي
٢٣

إِلَٰه علِم وعى


And Allah Knows all that they pay attention to.

84:24


فَبَشِّرْهُم so give them tidings

Fabashshirhum
ب ش ر
بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment

biAAathabin
ع ذ ب
أَلِيمٍ painful

aleemin
أ ل م

بشِر عَذُبَ أَ لِمَ


So, give them news about a painful punishment.

84:25


إِلَّا Except

Illa

الَّذِينَ those who

allatheena

اٰمَنُواْ believe

amanoo

وَعَمِلُواْ and do

waAAamiloo
ع م ل
الصَّالِحَاتِ righteous deeds

ص ل ح
لَهُمْ For them

lahum

أَجْرٌ (is) a reward

ajrun
أ ج ر
غَيْرُ never

ghayru
غ ي ر
مَمْنُونٍ ending

mamnoonin
م ن ن
٢٥

أَ مُنَ عَمِلَ صَلَحَ أَجَرَ غير مَنَّ


Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds; for them, a reward that will never be weak (with no obligation).
