80:1


عَبَسَ He frowned

وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ and turned away

عَبَسَ وَلِيَ


He frowned and turned away.

80:2


أَن Because

An

جَآءَهُ came to him

الْأَعْمَىٰ the blind man

جَاءَ عَمِيَ


That the blind person came to him.

80:3


وَمَا But what?

Wama

يُدْرِيكَ would make you know

yudreeka
د ر ي
لَعَلَّهُۥ that he might

laAAallahu

يَزَّكَّىٰٓ purify himself

yazzakka
ز ك و

دَرَك زَكَى


And (but) do you not know? Maybe he will become purified (righteous).

80:4


أَوْ Or

Aw

يَذَّكَّرُ be reminded

yaththakkaru
ذ ك ر
فَتَنفَعَهُ so would benefit him

fatanfaAAahu
ن ف ع
الذِّكْرَىٰٓ the reminder

ذ ك ر
٤

ذَكّرَ نَفَعَ ذَكّرَ


Or he will remember, and the remembrance will then benefit him.

أَمَّا As for

Amma

مَنِ (him) who

mani

اسْتَغْنَىٰ considers himself free from need

غنِي


As for him, who has no need (able to dispense).

80:6


فَأَنتَ So you

لَهُۥ to him

تَصَدَّى give attention

You gave him your attention.

وَمَا And not

Wama

عَلَيْكَ upon you

أَلَّا that not

يَزَّكَّىٰ he purifies himself

زَكَى


And it is not on you if he does not become righteous.

وَأَمَّا But as for

Waamma

مَن (he) who

man

جَآءَكَ came to you

jaaka

يَسْعَىٰ striving

جَاءَ سعى


And he who comes to you running.

وَهُوَ While he

Wahuwa

يَخْشَىٰ fears

خَشَيَ


While he is fearful.

80:10


فَأَنتَ But you

Faanta

عَنْهُ from him

تَلَهَّىٰ (are) distracted

To him, you become oblivious. (You distract from him).

كَلَّآ Nay!

Kalla

إِنَّهَا Indeed it

تَذْكِرَةٌ (is) a reminder

No. This is a remembrance.

فَمَن So whosoever

Then, whoever desires (this is) for his remembrance.

Raised high and purified.

بِأَيْدِى In (the) hands

By the hands of mediators (unveiling, writing scriptures).

كِرَامٍ Noble

كَرُمَ بَرَّ


Noble and dutiful.

قُتِلَ Is destroyed

قَتَلَ أَنِسَ كَفَرَ


Humankind is destroyed due to what he has covered.

نَطَفَ خَلَقَ قدر


He was created from the sperm, and then he was given power.

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

السَّبِيلَ the way

يَسَّرَهُۥ He made easy for him

سَبَلَ يَسَرَ


Then the path was made easy for him.

80:21


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

أَمَاتَهُۥ He causes him to die

فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ and provides a grave for him

Then, He caused him to die and put him in a grave.

Thumma

Then, when He (Allah) wills, He will raise him.

كَلَّا Nay!

But no, he did not fulfill (accomplished, carried out) what He Commended to him.

فَلْيَنظُرِ Then let look

الْإِنسَانُ the man

طَعَامِهِۦٓ his food

نَظَرَ أَنِسَ طَعِمَ


Let the man see his food. (How We developed and managed resources to provide him the food).

أَنَّا That [We]

صَبَبْنَا [We] poured

الْمَآءَ the water

صَبًّا (in) abundance

صَبَّ مَا ءَ صَبَّ


(First) We flow water pouring out in abundance.

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

شَقَقْنَا We cleaved

الْأَرْضَ the earth

شَقَّ أَ رَضْ شَقَّ


(Second) Then crack the earth to split.(seeds splitting in the soil).

فَأَنبَتْنَا Then We caused to grow

(Third) And We grew grain from it.

(Fourth) Bunch of grapes and herbs.

وَزَيْتُونًا And olive

(Fifth) Olive oils and date palms.

وَحَدَائِقَ And gardens

غُلْبًا (of) thick foliage

(Sixth) And gardens predominantly.

وَفَاكِهَةً And fruits

(Seventh) And fruits and vegetables.

مَّتَاعًا (As) a provision

وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ and for your cattle

مَتَعَ نَعَمَ


(Eighth) Necessities (enjoyments) of life for you and your grazing livestock.

فَإِذَا But when

جَآءَتِ comes

الصَّاخَّةُ the Deafening Blast

But when the Deafening Noise will come to you.

يَوْمَ (The) Day

وَأُمِّهِۦ And his mother

And his mother and his father.

وَصَاحِبَتِهِۦ And his wife

صَحِبَ بَا نَ


And his mate and his children.

لِكُلِّ For every

مِّنْهُمْ among them

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

شَأْنٌ (will be) a matter

يُغْنِيهِ occupying him

٣٧

كُلّ مرأ شَأَن غنِي


For every man among them, the Day (of Final Judgement) will be a matter that will keep him busy.

وُجُوهٌ Faces

Wujoohun

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

مُّسْفِرَةٌ (will be) bright

وَجَهَ سفر


On that Day, their faces will be shining (glowing).

ضَاحِكَةٌ Laughing

Dahikatun

مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ rejoicing at good news

ضَحِكَ بشِر


Laughing, cheerful, and happy at the good news.

وَوُجُوهٌ And faces

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

عَلَيْهَا upon them

AAalayha

غَبَرَةٌ (will be) dust

وَجَهَ غَبَرَ


And faces on that Day will be dusty.

تَرْهَقُهَا Will cover them

رَهِقَ قَتَرَ


Overtaken by poverty (nothing for him).

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those

الْكَفَرَةُ (are) the disbelievers

كَفَرَ فجر


Those who are ungrateful and insolent.
