75:1


لَآ Nay!

La

أُقْسِمُ I swear

بِيَوْمِ by (the) Day

biyawmi
ي و م
الْقِيَامَةِ (of) the Resurrection

alqiyamati
ق و م

قَسَمَ يوْم قَامَ


No! I take the Oath of the Day of Standing.

75:2


وَلَآ And nay!

Wala

أُقْسِمُ I swear

بِالنَّفْسِ by the soul

bialnnafsi
ن ف س
اللَّوَّامَةِ self-accusing

allawwamati

٢

قَسَمَ نفُس لَامَ


And no! I take the Oath of the soul of the self-blamed.

75:3


أَيَحْسَبُ Does think?

Ayahsabu

الْإِنسَانُ [the] man

أَلَّن that not

allan

نَّجْمَعَ We will assemble

najmaAAa

عِظَامَهُۥ his bones

AAithamahu
ع ظ م
٣

حَسَبَ أَنِسَ جَمَعَ عَظُمَ


Does the man think that We will not collect his bones?

75:4


بَلَىٰ Nay!

Bala

قَادِرِينَ (We are) Able

عَلَىٰٓ on

AAala

أَن that

an

نُّسَوِّىَ We can restore

nusawwiya
س و ي
بَنَانَهُ his fingertips

bananahu
ب ن ن
٤

قدر سَوِيَ بَنَا نْ


Yes indeed! We can straighten (arrange even) his fingertips (Human fingerprints are detailed, nearly unique, difficult to alter, and durable over an individual's life, making them suitable as long-term markers of human identity Ref. Wikipedia).

75:5


بَلْ Nay!

Bal

يُرِيدُ Desires

yureedu

الْإِنسَانُ [the] man

alinsanu
أ ن س
لِيَفْجُرَ to give (the) lie

liyafjura
ف ج ر
أَمَامَهُۥ (to) what is before him

amamahu
أ م م
٥

رَادَ أَنِسَ فجر أمّ


But the man desires to sin what is in front of him (looks for a present reward and does not think that the results of his deeds will come back).

75:6


يَسْـَٔلُ He asks

Yasalu

أَيَّانَ When?

ayyana

يَوْمُ (is the) Day

الْقِيَامَةِ (of) the Resurrection

سأل يوْم قَامَ


He asks, “When is the Day of Standing (final judgment)?”

فَإِذَا So when

Faitha

بَرِقَ is dazzled

الْبَصَرُ the vision

برق بصُر


Then with the twinkling of the eye.

75:8


وَخَسَفَ And becomes dark

الْقَمَرُ the moon

خَسَفَ قَمَرَ


And the moon will sink.

75:9


وَجُمِعَ And are joined

الشَّمْسُ the sun

وَالْقَمَرُ and the moon

جَمَعَ شَمَسَ قَمَرَ


And the sun and the moon will be united.

75:10


يَقُولُ Will say

Yaqoolu

الْإِنسَانُ [the] man

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

أَيْنَ Where?

ayna

الْمَفَرُّ (is) the escape

almafarru
ف ر ر

قَالَ أَنِسَ فَرَّ


On the Day, humankind will say, “Where is the escape?”

75:11


كَلَّا By no means!

Kalla

لَا (There is) no

وَزَرَ refuge

وَزَرَ


No indeed! Nobody took responsibility for his deeds (nobody to help).

75:12


إِلَىٰ To

Ila

رَبِّكَ your Lord

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

الْمُسْتَقَرُّ (is) the place of rest

رَبَّ قَرَّ


Towards his Rabb on that Day is the final dwelling (final resting place).

75:13


يُنَبَّؤُا Will be informed

Yunabbao
ن ب أ
الْإِنسَانُ [the] man

أ ن س
يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

بِمَا of what

bima

قَدَّمَ he sent forth

qaddama
ق د م
وَأَخَّرَ and kept back

waakhkhara
أ خ ر
١٣

نبأ أَنِسَ قَدَمَ أخر


On that day, the man will be informed about what he has sent forward and what he has left behind.

75:14


بَلِ Nay!

Bali

الْإِنسَانُ [The] man

عَلَىٰ against

نَفْسِهِۦ himself

nafsihi
ن ف س
بَصِيرَةٌ (will be) a witness

baseeratun
ب ص ر
١٤

أَنِسَ نفُس بصُر


But the man, on his own, realizes.

75:15


وَلَوْ Even if

Walaw

أَلْقَىٰ he presents

مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ his excuses

لقِي عَذَرَ


And wishes to submit his excuses.

لَا Not

تُحَرِّكْ move

بِهِۦ with it

bihi

لِسَانَكَ your tongue

lisanaka

لِتَعْجَلَ to hasten

litaAAjala
ع ج ل
بِهِۦٓ with it

bihi

١٦

حَرِك لَسِنَ عَجِلَ


Do not move (to vocalize) with your tongue to expedite (learning).

75:17


إِنَّ Indeed

Inna

عَلَيْنَا upon Us

AAalayna

جَمْعَهُۥ (is) its collection

وَقُرْآنَهُۥ and its recitation

جَمَعَ قَرَأَ


Indeed, Its collection and its recitation are on Us.

فَإِذَا And when

Faitha

قَرَأْنَاهُ We have recited it

فَاتَّبِعْ then follow

قُرْآنَهُۥ its recitation

قَرَأَ تبِع قَرَأَ


Then, when it is read, follow (pursue, adhere, to what is) recited.

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

إِنَّ indeed

inna

عَلَيْنَا upon Us

AAalayna

بَيَانَهُۥ (is) its explanation

بَا نَ


Then, it is upon Us to make its explanation (evident).

75:20


كَلَّا No!

Kalla

بَلْ But

bal

تُحِبُّونَ you love

tuhibboona

الْعَاجِلَةَ the immediate

alAAajilata
ع ج ل
٢٠

حَبَّ عَجِلَ


Indeed, you love the faster (life of this world).

75:21


وَتَذَرُونَ And leave

Watatharoona
و ذ ر
الْاٰخِرَةَ the Hereafter

ذَرَا أخر


And you leave the Hereafter.

75:22


وُجُوهٌ Faces

Wujoohun
و ج ه
يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

نَّاضِرَةٌ (will be) radiant

nadiratun
ن ض ر
٢٢

وَجَهَ نَضَرَ


On that Day, faces will be blooming.

75:23


إِلَىٰ Towards

Ila

رَبِّهَا their Lord

rabbiha

نَاظِرَةٌ looking

nathiratun
ن ظ ر
٢٣

رَبَّ نَظَرَ


Towards their Rabb, they will be looking.

75:24


وَوُجُوهٌ And faces

Wawujoohun

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

بَاسِرَةٌ (will be) distorted

وَجَهَ بسر


And on that Day, faces will be scowling.

75:25


تَظُنُّ Thinking

يُفْعَلَ will be done

بِهَا to them

فَاقِرَةٌ backbreaking

ظَنَّ فَعَلَ فَقَرَ


Realizing that he would be acted upon by poverty-stricken (impoverished).

75:26


كَلَّآ No!

Kalla

إِذَا When

بَلَغَتِ it reaches

التَّرَاقِيَ the collar bones

بلغ تَرَاق


Indeed not, when it reaches his collarbone.

75:27


وَقِيلَ And it is said

Waqeela
ق و ل
مَنْ Who?

رَاقٍ (will) cure

قَالَ رَقَّ


And it is said, “Who is compassionate?” (who can save a life?)

75:28


وَظَنَّ And he is certain

الْفِرَاقُ (is) the parting

And he realizes that he is in separation.

وَالْتَفَّتِ And is wound

Wailtaffati

السَّاقُ the leg

بِالسَّاقِ about the leg

س و ق

لفت سَاقَ سَاقَ


And the leg is entwined with another leg.

75:30


إِلَىٰ To

Ila

رَبِّكَ your Lord

rabbika
ر ب ب
يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

yawmaithin

الْمَسَاقُ (will be) the driving

almasaqu

٣٠

رَبَّ سَاقَ


To your Rabb, on that Day will be the drive.

75:31


فَلَا And not

Fala

صَدَّقَ he accepted (the) truth

saddaqa

وَلَا and not

wala

صَلَّىٰ he prayed

salla
ص ل و
٣١

صَدَقَ صلو


He neither gave charity nor prayed.

75:32


وَلَٰكِن But

Walakin

كَذَّبَ he denied

وَتَوَلَّىٰ and turned away

watawalla

كَذَبَ وَلِيَ


And but he lied and turned away.

75:33


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

ذَهَبَ he went

thahaba

إِلَىٰٓ to

ila

أَهْلِهِۦ his family

ahlihi
أ ه ل
يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ swaggering

yatamatta
م ط و
٣٣

ذهب أهَلَ NF


Then he went to his family, stretching (expanding himself in admiring).

75:34


أَوْلَىٰ Woe

Awla
و ل ي
لَكَ to you

laka

فَأَوْلَىٰ and woe!

faawla
و ل ي
٣٤

وَلِيَ وَلِيَ


Woe to you and your suffering.

75:35


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

أَوْلَىٰ woe

لَكَ to you

فَأَوْلَىٰٓ and woe!

و ل ي
٣٥

وَلِيَ وَلِيَ


Then again: woe to you and your suffering.

75:36


أَيَحْسَبُ Does think?

حَسَبَ أَنِسَ ترك سدّى


Does the man think he will be left in vain (unaccountable, useless)?

75:37


أَلَمْ Was not?

نُطْفَةً a semen-drop

مَّنِىٍّۢ semen

يُمْنَىٰ emitted

م ن ي
٣٧

كَانَ نَطَفَ مَنَا مَنَا


Is it not that he is a drop of emitting semen?

75:38


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

كَانَ he was

عَلَقَةً a clinging substance

AAalaqatan
ع ل ق
فَخَلَقَ then He created

fakhalaqa

فَسَوَّىٰ and proportioned

fasawwa
س و ي
٣٨

كَانَ عَلِقَ خَلَقَ سَوِيَ


Then he became a clot. And He shaped and proportionated?

75:39


فَجَعَلَ Then made

مِنْهُ of him

الزَّوْجَيْنِ two kinds

alzzawjayni
ز و ج
الذَّكَرَ (the) male

وَالْأُنثَىٰٓ and the female

waalontha
أ ن ث
٣٩

جعل زَاجَ ذَكّرَ أَنُثَ


And created from it the pairs, the male and the female?

75:40


أَلَيْسَ Is not?

Alaysa
ل ي س
ذَٰلِكَ [that]

بِقَادِرٍ (He) Able

عَلَىٰٓ [over]

أَن to

يُحْيِىَ give life

yuhyiya
ح ي ي
الْمَوْتَىٰ (to) the dead

almawta
م و ت
٤٠

لَيْسَ قدر حي مَاتَ


Is it not so that Who has power on it (to create a man alive) that He gives life to the dead?
