72:1


قُلْ Say

أُوحِىَ It has been revealed

قَالَ وَحَى مَتَعَ نَفَرَ جنّ قَالَ سَمَعَ قَرَأَ عَجَبَ


Say, “It was revealed to me that there was a group of jinn (word -Janna- concealed hidden, cannot see) who listened in, and said, ‘We have heard a beautiful Quran (marvelous, surprising).

72:2


يَهْدِىٓ It guides

هَدَى رَشَدَ أمُن شَرِكَ رَبَّ أحد


It guides us toward the right way, so we believe in it and will never make anyone a partner with our Rabb.

72:3


وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He

اتَّخَذَ He has taken

عَلَا جدّ رَبَّ أَخَذَ صَحِبَ وَلَدَ


And He is Extremely Exalted, our Rabb. He did not take a wife or have any child.

72:4


وَأَنَّهُۥ And that he

كَانَ قَالَ سَفِهَ إِله شَطَّ


But those who are saying that (He has wife and children) are foolish from among us. They went too far on Allah.

72:5


وَأَنَّا And that we

ظَنَّ قَالَ أَنِسَ جنّ إِله كَذَبَ


And we thought that humankind and jinn would never say (such) a lie about Allah.

72:6


وَأَنَّهُۥ And that

الْإِنسِ mankind

يَعُوذُونَ who sought refuge

فَزَادُوهُمْ so they increased them

fazadoohum

رَهَقًا (in) burden

كَانَ رَجِلَ أَنِسَ عاذ رَجِلَ جنّ زَادَ رَهِقَ


And that (some) men from humankind used to take shelter with men among the jinn, but it only increased their oppression (sufferings).

72:7


وَأَنَّهُمْ And that they

ظَنَّ ظَنَّ بعث إِلَٰه أحد


They supposed as you thought, Allah would never raise (resurrect) anyone.

72:8


وَأَنَّا And that we

لَمَسْنَا sought to touch

فَوَجَدْنَاهَا but we found it

وَشُهُبًا and flaming fires

مسّ سَمِي وَجَدَ مَلَأَ حَرَسَ شَدَّ شَهَبَ


And that, we touched the sky and found it full of intense protection and jets of blazing fires.

72:9


وَأَنَّا And that we

شِهَابًا a flaming fire

رَّصَدًا waiting

٩

كَانَ قَعَدَ قَعَدَ سَمَعَ سَمَعَ وَجَدَ شَهَبَ رَصَدَ


And we used to sit in positions to listen in, but whoever heard at that time found himself a blaze in ambush.

72:10


وَأَنَّا And that we

رَشَدًا a right path

دَرَى شَرَّ رَادَ فِي أَ رَضْ رَادَ رَبَّ رَشَدَ


And that we do not comprehend whether harm is being sought for whoever is on the earth or if it is guidance aimed for them by their Rabb.

72:11


وَأَنَّا And that [we]

مِنَّا among us

الصَّالِحُونَ (are) the righteous

دُونَ (are) other than

ذَٰلِكَ that

كُنَّا We

طَرَآئِقَ (are on) ways

صَلَحَ دُون كَانَ طَرَقَ قَدَّ


And the righteous among us and the others among us were on split paths.

72:12


وَأَنَّا And that we

ظَنَنَّآ [we] have become certain

نُّعجِزَ we will cause failure

نُّعْجِزَهُۥ we can escape Him

هَرَبًا (by) flight

١٢

ظَنَّ عَجَزَ إِلَٰه فِي أَ رَضْ عَجَزَ هَرَبَ


And we recognized that we could never weaken Allah on the earth or weaken Him in a fight.

72:13


وَأَنَّا And that [we]

Waanna

لَمَّا when

سَمِعْنَا we heard

الْهُدَىٰٓ the Guidance

اٰمَنَّا we believed

بِهِۦ in it

فَمَن And whoever

يُؤْمِن believes

بِرَبِّهِۦ in his Lord

فَلَا then not

fala

يَخَافُ he will fear

بَخْسًا any loss

bakhsan

وَلَا and not

wala

رَهَقًا any burden

rahaqan
ر ه ق
١٣

سَمَعَ هَدَى أَ مُنَ أمُن رَبَّ خَافَ بخس رَهِقَ


And that when we listen to the guidance, we believe in it. Whoever believes in his Rabb has no fear of decreasing (reward) nor a burden.

72:14


وَأَنَّا And that we

Waanna

مِنَّا among us

minna

الْمُسْلِمُونَ (are) Muslims

almuslimoona

وَمِنَّا and among us

waminna

الْقَٰسِطُونَ (are) unjust

alqasitoona
ق س ط
فَمَنْ And whoever

faman

أَسْلَمَ submits

aslama
س ل م
فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ then those

faolaika

تَحَرَّوْا have sought

taharraw
ح ر ي
رَشَدًا (the) right path

rashadan
ر ش د
١٤

سلِم قسط سلِم حَرَّ رَشَدَ


And among us are submissive people, and among us are those who make parts (share others with Allah). Then whoever is more submissive they are liberally guided.

72:15


وَأَمَّا And as for

Waama

الْقَٰسِطُونَ the unjust

alqasitoona

فَكَانُوا they will be

fakanoo
ك و ن
لِجَهَنَّمَ for Hell

lijahannama

حَطَبًا firewood

hataban
ح ط ب
١٥

قسط كَانَ حَطَبَ


And for those who make parts (share others with Allah), then they will be firewood for Hell.’”

72:16


وَأَلَّوِ And that if

Waallawi

اسْتَقَامُواْ they had remained

istaqamoo

عَلَى on

AAala

الطَّرِيقَةِ the Way

alttareeqati

لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم surely We (would) have given them to drink

laasqaynahum
س ق ي
مَّآءً water

maan
م و ه
غَدَقًا (in) abundance

ghadaqan
غ د ق
١٦

قَامَ طَرَقَ سَقَى مَا ءَ غَدِقَ


If they remained steadfast on the Path, We would have given them plenty of water to drink.

72:17


لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ That We might test them

فِيهِ therein

وَمَن And whoever

waman

يُعْرِضْ turns away

عَن from

ذِكْرِ the Remembrance

thikri
ذ ك ر
رَبِّهِۦ (of) his Lord

rabbihi

يَسْلُكْهُ He will make him enter

yaslukhu
س ل ك
عَذَابًا a punishment

AAathaban
ع ذ ب
صَعَدًا severe

saAAadan
ص ع د
١٧

فَتَنَ فِي عَرُضَ ذَكّرَ رَبَّ سَلَكَ عَذُبَ صَعِدَ


So, We test them in this, whoever turns away from remembering his Rabb, will be followed with the punishment going up (increasing).

72:18


وَأَنَّ And that

Waanna

الْمَسَاجِدَ the masjids

لِلّٰهِ (are) for Allah

فَلَا so (do) not

تَدْعُوا call

مَعَ with

maAAa

اللهِ Allah

Allahi
أ ل ه
أَحَدًا anyone

أ ح د
١٨

سَجَدَ إِلَٰه دَعَا إِله أحد


And that the mosques are for Allah. So, do not call, besides Allah, anyone else.

72:19


وَأَنَّهُۥ And that

Waannahu

يَدْعُوهُ calling (upon) Him

لِبَدًا a compacted mass

١٩

قَامَ عَبَدَ إِله دَعَا كَادَ كَانَ لَبَدَ


And when the slave of Allah stood invoking Him, they almost stuck on him in a mass (surround him and weigh him down).

72:20


قُلْ Say

إِنَّمَآ Only

أَدْعُوٓا I call upon

رَبِّى my Lord

وَلَآ and not

أُشْرِكُ I associate

بِهِۦٓ with Him

أَحَدًا anyone

٢٠

قَالَ دَعَا رَبَّ شَرِكَ أحد


Say, “Indeed, I only invoke my Rabb, and I do not make anyone else partner with Him,”

قُلْ Say

قَالَ ملك ضَرَّ رَشَدَ


Say, “Indeed, I do not have the power to harm you nor to guide (you).”

قُلْ Say

يُجِيرَنِى can protect me

قَالَ جَارَ إِله أحد وَجَدَ دُون لَحَدَ


Say, “Indeed, nobody will give me sanctuary from Allah, and I will never find other than Him to incline.

72:23


إِلَّا But

جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell

خَالِدِينَ (they will) abide

فِيهَآ therein

feeha

أَبَدًا forever

٢٣

بلغ إِله رَسِلَ عَصَى إِلَٰه رَسِلَ نَار خَلَدَ أبد


Except (that I perform) preaching from Allah and His messages. Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, for him is the Fire of Hell, in which they will live forever.”

72:24


حَتَّىٰٓ Until

Hatta

إِذَا when

فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ then they will know

وَأَقَلُّ and fewer

رَأَى وَعَدَ علِم ضَعَفَ نَصَرَ قَلَّ عَدَّ


Until they see what is being promised, they will know who is weaker in help and lower in numbers.

قُلْ Say

إِنْ Not

أَدْرِىٓ I know

أَقَرِيبٌ whether is near?

أَمَدًا a (distant) term

قَالَ دَرَى قرُب وَعَدَ جعل رَبَّ أَ مَدْ


Say, “I do not know if what is being promised to you is near or if my Rabb has made it after a span of time.”

عَالِمُ (The) All-Knower

أَحَدًا (to) anyone

علِم غَابَ ظهر غَابَ أحد


He knows the unseen, so nothing can appear (be revealed) to anyone what He has concealed.

72:27


إِلَّا Except

رَضِيَ رَسِلَ سَلَكَ بَا نَ يدي خَلَفَ رَصَدَ


Except whom He accepted as His Messenger. Then, he will be followed front and back in observance (to be guarded and protected from all sides).

لِّيَعْلَمَ That He may make evident

عَدَدًا (in) number

٢٨

علِم بلغ رَسِلَ رَبَّ حَاطَ لدى حَصَ كُلّ شِاءَ عَدَّ


To know that they have entirely delivered Messages of their Rabb. And He encompasses what they have and Has accounted for everything in number.
