68:1


نٓ Nun

Noon

وَالْقَلَمِ By the pen

Noon. By the pen and what is written down (record).

بِنِعْمَةِ by (the) Grace

رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord

نَعَمَ رَبَّ جنّ


By the grace of your Rabb, you are not possessed.

68:3


وَإِنَّ And indeed

لَأَجْرًا surely (is) a reward

أَجَرَ غير مَنَّ


Indeed, for you, there is a reward with no obligation.

وَإِنَّكَ And indeed you

لَعَلىٰ surely (are)

خُلُقٍ (of) a moral character

خَلَقَ عَظُمَ


Indeed, you are of great character.

68:5


فَسَتُبْصِرُ So you will see

وَيُبْصِرُونَ and they will see

بصُر بصُر


Then soon, you will see (you are endowed with understanding), and they will see (they will realize).

بِأَييِّكُمُ Which of you?

الْمَفْتُونُ (is) the afflicted one

Who among you is being charmed (who is seduced)?

إِنَّ Indeed

رَبَّ علِم ضلّ سَبَلَ علِم هَدَى


Indeed, Your Rabb Knows who has gone astray from His path and who is rightly guided.

68:8


فَلَا So (do) not

Then (O you, The Prophet) do not follow the liars.

وَدُّوا They wish

فَيُدْهِنُونَ so they would compromise

They will love if you deceive so that they will deceive.

وَلَا And (do) not

And do not follow anyone who swears, behaving despicably.

هَمَّازٍ Defamer

Walks (around) with advancing (spreading) slandering (backbiting attributes).

مَّنَّاعٍ A preventer

He prevents the good and is ready to offend.

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “fable myths of the ancients!”

سَنَسِمُهُۥ We will brand him

Soon, We will put the title on (his) nose.

Indeed, We tested them like We tested the owners of the garden (farm land) when they took the oath that we will cut (the harvest) in the morning.

وَلَا And not

فَطَافَ So there came

Then (calamity) from your Rabb surrounded them while they were sleeping.

فَأَصْبَحَتْ So it became

By the morning, (it became) as if it were cut off (in the past bygone).

فَتَنَادَوا And they called one another

Then (in the morning), they called to one another.

“Go towards your cultivation if you are going to cut.”

فَانطَلَقُوا So they went

So, they departed while they were lowering their voice.

“No poor (needy) person should come to you today.”

وَغَدَوْا And they went early

And they went in the morning, in anger with determination.

68:26


فَلَمَّا But when

Then (but) when they saw it, they said, “We are at a loss.

68:27


بَلْ Nay!

مَحْرُومُونَ (are) deprived

But we are deprived.”

68:28


قَالَ Said

أَوْسَطُهُمْ (the) most moderate of them

تُسَبِّحُونَ you glorify (Allah)

قَالَ وسط قَالَ سبح


The person in the middle among them said, “Did I not tell you, ‘Why you do not glorify Allah?’”

68:29


قَالُواْ They said

سُبْحَٰنَ Glory be

رَبِّنَآ (to) our Lord!

ظَالِمِينَ wrongdoers

قَالَ سبح رَبَّ كَانَ ظَلَمَ


They said, “Praise be to our Rabb; we were unjust.”

فَأَقْبَلَ Then approached

يَتَلَاوَمُونَ blaming each other

قَبِلَ بَعَضَ بَعَضَ لَامَ


"They then confront each other, blaming one another."

68:31


قَالُواْ They said

يَاوَيْلَنَآ O woe to us!

إِنَّا Indeed we

كُنَّا [we] were

طَاغِينَ transgressors

قَالَ كَانَ طَغَا


They said, “O disaster on us, we were surely cruel.

عَسَىٰ Perhaps

رَبُّنَآ our Lord

يُبْدِلَنَا will substitute for us

مِّنْهَا than it

رَبِّنَا our Lord

رَاغِبُونَ turn devoutly

٣٢

عَسَى رَبَّ بَدَلَ خَيرَ رَبَّ رَغِبَ


We hope our Rabb will replace better than this. To our Rabb, we turn.”

68:33


كَذَٰلِكَ Such

Kathalika

الْعَذَابُ (is) the punishment

وَلَعَذَابُ And surely the punishment

الْاٰخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter

عَذُبَ عَذُبَ أخر كَبَرَ كَانَ علِم


This is the punishment, but the punishment of the Hereafter is bigger if only they knew.

إِنَّ Indeed

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the righteous

جَنَّاتِ (are) Gardens

النَّعِيمِ (of) Delight

وقى عَنَدَ رَبَّ جنّ نَعَمَ


Indeed, for the devoted (God-fearing), there will be Blessed Gardens with their Rabb.

أَفَنَجْعَلُ Then will We treat?

Should We make submissive Muslims the same as those who are unjust criminals?

What is the matter with you? How do you decide (decree)?

تَدْرُسُونَ you learn

كَتَبَ فِي دَرَسَ


Or is there a book with you that you study from?

إِنَّ Indeed

تَخَيَّرُونَ you choose

فِي خَيرَ


That for you therein whatever you choose?

أَمْ Or

Am

لَكُمْ for you

أَيْمَانٌ oaths

بَالِغَةٌ reaching

يَوْمِ (the) Day

تَحْكُمُونَ you judge

يَمَنَ بلغ يوْم قَامَ حَكَمَ


Or is there an oath from Us, reaching up to the Day of Standing (throughout the time of this world), indeed, for you are (reward based on) whatever you decide?

سَلْهُم Ask them

أَيُّهُم which of them?

بِذَلِكَ for that

زَعِيمٌ (is) responsible

سأل زَعَمَ


Ask them who is among them has a guarantee about that.

فَلْيَأْتُوا Then let them bring

شَرِكَ أتى شَرِكَ كَانَ صَدَقَ


Or do they have partners? Then bring their partners if they are truthful.

يَوْمَ (The) Day

يوْم كَشَفَ سَاقَ دَعَا سَجَدَ طَاعَ


On the Day when they will be uncovered from heels (each soul will be uncovered to their ultimate aim or ultimate intentions), they will be called upon to prostrate, but they will not be able to do so.

خَاشِعَةً Humbled

Their eyes will be submissive; humiliation will take them over. They were called upon to do prostration when they were safe and sound.

فَذَرْنِى So leave Me

سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم We will progressively lead them

وَزَرَ كَذَبَ حَدَثَ دَرَجَ حَيْثُ علِم


So, leave Me and whoever denies this information; We will slowly advance towards them (step by step), from where they would never guess (know).

وَأُمْلِي And I will give respite

مَلَأَ كَيدَ متُن


And I give them respite (a long time). My plan is firm.

تَسْأَلُهُمْ you ask them

Or do you ask them for a reward so they suffer from the burden?

Or is there a (secret) invisible source, so they write it down?

فَاصْبِرْ So be patient

صَبَرَ حَكَمَ رَبَّ كَانَ صَحِبَ حَالَ ندا كَشَفَ


So, be patient with the Decision of your Rabb, and do not be like the associate of the fish (Not be impatient like Prophet Yunus ibn Matta عليه السلام. May God bless him and grant him peace) when he cried out in distress.

دَرَك نَعَمَ رَبَّ نَبَذَ ذَمَّ


If it were not that favors of his Rabb reached him, he would have been thrown into the barren shore while he was rebuked.

فَاجْتَبَاهُ But chose him

فَجَعَلَهُۥ and made him

الصَّالِحِينَ the righteous

But his Rabb answered him, and He made him among the righteous.

لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ surely make you slip

سَمِعُوا they hear

الذِّكْرَ the Message

alththikra
ذ ك ر
وَيَقُولُونَ and they say

wayaqooloona
ق و ل
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed he

innahu

لَمَجْنُونٌ (is) surely mad

lamajnoonun
ج ن ن

كَادَ كَفَرَ زَلِقَ بصُر سَمَعَ ذَكّرَ قَالَ جنّ


Those who did not believe almost made you slip with their eyes after they heard the remembrance (Quran), and they said, “He is possessed!”

Wama

هُوَ it (is)

huwa

إِلَّا but

illa

ذِكْرٌ a Reminder

لِّلْعَالَمِينَ to the worlds

But this is only a reminder for the Worlds.
