54:1


اقْتَرَبَتِ Has come near

السَّاعَةُ the Hour

الْقَمَرُ the moon

قرُب سَاعته شَقَّ قَمَرَ


The Hour (of Resurrection) is approaching (coming) close and the Moon is split.

54:2


وَإِن And if

يَرَوْا they see

اٰيَةً a Sign

يُعْرِضُوا they turn away

سِحْرٌ Magic

رَأَى آ ىي -آية عَرُضَ قَالَ سَحَرَ مرّ


If they see a sign, they turn away and say (Oh, that's just some) continuous magic."(When presented with a sign, they quickly dismiss it as a mere illusion).

54:3


وَكَذَّبُوا And they denied

وَاتَّبَعُوٓا and followed

وَكُلُّ but (for) every

مُّسْتَقِرٌّ (will be a) settlement

كَذَبَ تبِع هوى كُلّ أمر قَرَّ


They denied and followed their desires, but every matter has a set outcome.

54:4


وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

جَآءَهُم has come to them

مُزْدَجَرٌ (is) deterrence

جَاءَ نبأ فِي زَجَرَ


And indeed, information came to them to restrain (to restrain and hold themselves back, and not to oppose the Messenger).

حِكْمَةٌ Wisdom

حَكَمَ بلغ غنِي نَذَرَ


When the decision arrives (judgment announced), there is no use for the warnings. (Here is a sign, but they do not notice).

54:6


فَتَوَلَّ So turn away

وَلِيَ يوْم دَعَا دَعَا شِاءَ نَكِرَ


Then turn away from them (because they are denying) a day (an appointed day) they will be called by the caller towards a thing (they) refused to acknowledge.

54:7


خُشَّعًا (Will be) humbled

أَبْصَارُهُمْ their eyes

يَخْرُجُونَ they will come forth

الْأَجْدَاثِ the graves

خَشَعَ بصُر خرج جَدَث جَرَدَ نشر


Their eyes will be submissive, and they will come out from graves like locusts sprayed out. Notes: The human lifespan is very short compared to the next life, similar to the cicada (1) lifespan of many cicada species above ground is much shorter than their underground lives. some species might emerge as often as annually or as infrequently as every 17 years, but they expire approximately five to six weeks later. (2) A single swarm can contain between 40 and 80 million locusts per square kilometer.

54:8


مُّهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead

هَطَعَ دَعَا قَالَ كَفَرَ يوْم عَسُرَ


Protruding their necks (paying full attention) to the caller, the ungrateful will be saying this is a hard (difficult) day.

كَذَّبَتْ Denied

وَازْدُجِرَ and he was repelled

كَذَبَ قَبِلَ قَامَ كَذَبَ عَبَدَ قَالَ جنّ زَجَرَ


The nation of Noah (also) denied before them. They denied Our worshipper (Noah), and they said, “He is possessed,” and they rebuked.

54:10


فَدَعَا So he called

رَبَّهُۥٓ his Lord

فَانتَصِرْ so help

دَعَا رَبَّ غَلَبَ نشر


So, he (Noah) called (appealed) to his Rabb, "I am defeated (and helpless in this struggle), so help me."

54:11


فَفَتَحْنَآ So We opened

So, We opened the doors of the sky with water pouring down.

54:12


وَفَجَّرْنَا And We caused to burst

And We split the earth with springs, and the water received an already determined command.

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ And We carried him

And We carried him on (ship) of the planks and inserted (nails).

تَجْرِى Sailing

جَرَى عين جَزَى كَانَ كَفَرَ


Running before Our eyes; a reward for him (Noah) who was denied (by unbelievers).

وَلَقَد And certainly

Walaqad

تَّرَكْنَاهَآ We left it

اٰيَةً (as) a Sign

فَهَلْ so is (there)?

مُّدَّكِرٍ who will receive admonition

ترك آ ىي -آية ذَكّرَ


And We already left this as a sign. Is there anyone who will remember (learn)?

يَسَّرْنَا We have made easy

We made the Quran easy for remembrance. Is there anyone who will remember (learn)?

رَسِلَ رَاحَ صُرَّة فِي يوْم نَحَسَ مرّ


Indeed, We sent a persistent wind on a day of continuous calamity on them.

تَنزِعُ Plucking out

نَزَعَ أَنِسَ عَجَزَ نَخَلَ قَعُرَ


Removing men like hollowed-out stumps of the (date) pine trees.

فَقَالُوٓا And said

Faqaloo

أَبَشَرًا Is (it) a human being?

نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ (that) we should follow him

وَسُعُرٍ and madness

قَالَ بشر أحد تبِع ضلّ وَسُعَ


They said, “Are we going to follow only a man of our (own group, a man like us)? Indeed, then we would be misguided and mad.

54:25


أَؤُلْقِىَ Has been sent?

لقِي ذَكّرَ بَا نَ كَذَبَ شَرَّ


Or has he (the only one) encountered a Reminder among us? But he is a designated liar.”

سَيَعْلَمُونَ They will know

الْكَذَّابُ (is) the liar

علِم غَدَا كَذَبَ شَرَّ


Soon they will know tomorrow who is the designated liar.

54:27


إِنَّا Indeed We

Inna

مُرْسِلُوا (are) sending

النَّاقَةِ the she-camel

فِتْنَةً (as) a trial

لَّهُمْ for them

lahum

فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ so watch them

fairtaqibhum

وَاصْطَبِرْ and be patient

٢٧

رَسِلَ نَاقَة فَتَنَ رَقَبَ صَبَرَ


Indeed, We will send the she-camel as a temptation (trial) for them, so watch them and be patient.

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ And inform them

نبأ مَا ءَ قَسَمَ بَا نَ كُلّ شَرِبَ حَضَرَ


And inform them that the water is divided between them (camel and men), and every drink will be attended (witnessed).

فَنَادَوْا But they called

صَاحِبَهُمْ their companion

فَتَعَاطَىٰ and he took

فَعَقَرَ and hamstrung

ندا صَحِبَ عَطَا عَقَرَ


Then (but) he called a friend of theirs, and then took the task (dared), and wounded (the camel).

فَكَيْفَ So how?

إِنَّآ Indeed We

أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent

صَيْحَةً thunderous blast

وَاحِدَةً single

فَكَانُوا and they became

كَهَشِيمِ like dry twig fragments

الْمُحْتَظِرِ (used by) a fence builder

٣١

رَسِلَ صَاحَ أحد كَانَ هشم حَظَرَ


Indeed, We sent on them one blast, and they were (destroyed) like hay in an enclosed (forbidden) fenced.

وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

بِسَحَرٍ by dawn

رَسِلَ حَصَبَ اول نَجَا سَحَرَ


Indeed, We sent crushed rocks on them, except for the family of Lut; We saved them by (before) the morning.

نِعْمَةً (As) a favor

نَعَمَ عَنَدَ جَزَى شَكَرَ


Grace from Us. That is how We reward the thankful (who acknowledges).

وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

أَنذَرَهُم he warned them

بِالنُّذُرِ the warnings

نَذَرَ بطش مَرْي نَذَرَ


And he (Lut) had already warned them of Our assault (strike), but they doubted the warning.

وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

رَاوَدُوهُ they demanded from him

فَطَمَسْنَآ so We blinded

عَذَابِى My punishment

وَنُذُرِ and My warnings

٣٧

رَادَ ضَافَ طَمَسَ عين ذاق عَذُبَ نَذَرَ


And indeed, they tempted (desired) to seek his guests, so, We erased their (destroyed, made lusterless) eyes. “So, taste My Punishment and Warnings.”

وَلَقَدْ And certainly

Walaqad

صَبَّحَهُم seized them in the morning

صَبُحَ بَكَرَ عَذُبَ قَرَّ


And already, their early morning brought lasting punishment.

فَذُوقُوا So taste

So, taste My punishment and Warning.

جَاءَ اول نَذَرَ


And indeed, the warnings came to the family of Firoun.

كَذَبَ آ ىي -آية كُلّ أَخَذَ أَخَذَ عَزَّ قدر


They denied Our signs, all of them, so, We seized them with strong power.

قَالَ جَمَعَ نَصَرَ


Or do they say, “We are all together and will be victorious (triumphant helping each other).”?

سَيُهْزَمُ Soon will be defeated

Soon they will be defeated altogether, and they will turn away their backs.

Bali

السَّاعَةُ the Hour

أَدْهَىٰ (will be) more grievous

But the Time is promised (appointed) for them, and the Time will be disastrous (and most bitter) and ordered (commanded).

Indeed, We have created everything with a destiny. (In proportion with amount as much as needed).

And Our command is (executed in) just one glance (glance of an eye, instantly).

We destroyed your groups. Is there anyone who is remembering?

الْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous

تقى فِي جنّ نهر


Indeed, the God-fearing (devoted, pious) will be in gardens and rivers.
