ذِكْرُ (A) mention

ذَكّرَ رَحِمَ رَبَّ عَبَدَ


Mention the Mercy of your Rabb on His slave Zakariya.

19:3


إِذْ When

When he called his Rabb, a call-in secret (special secret request, from the heart to Allah).

قَالَ رَبَّ وَهَنَ عَظُمَ شَعَلَ رَأَسَ شَابَ كَانَ دَعَا رَبَّ شْقى


He said, “O my Rabb, I am becoming weak in my bones, and my head is (like) aflame with gray hair, and I never had difficulty calling you, O my Rabb.”

وَإِنِّى And indeed I

“And indeed, I fear (nobody is) my trustee after me (to continue spreading teachings of Allah), and my woman is barren. So, endow me, from You, a trustee (supporter).

19:6


يَرِثُنِى Who will inherit me

وَرَثَ وَرَثَ اول جعل رَبَّ رَضِيَ


Give me an inheritor, and he will inherit from the family of Yakub and make him an acceptable (satisfaction for You), O my Rabb.”

يَازَكَرِيَّآ O Zakariya!

إِنَّا Indeed We

نُبَشِّرُكَ [We] give you glad tidings

“O Zakariya, We give you good news about a son; his name will be Yahya, a name We have not given before (anyone).”

قَالَ رَبَّ أنى كَانَ غَلِمَ كَانَ مرأ عَقَرَ بلغ كَبَرَ عَتَا


He (Zakariya) said, “O my Rabb, how will I have a son for me when my wife is barren, and indeed, I have reached a great (older) age?

قَالَ He said

He (Rabb) said, “That is how it will be, your Rabb says, ‘it is easy on Me, and I had created you before when you were nothing.’”

قَالَ رَبَّ جعل آ ىي -آية قَالَ آ ىي -آية كلِمُ أَنِسَ ثَلًثَ لَيْل سوِي


He (Zakariya) said, “O my Rabb, make for me a sign.” He (Allah) said, “Your sign is that you will not talk to humankind for three nights straight.”

19:11


فَخَرَجَ Then he came out

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ and he signaled

بُكْرَةً (in) the morning

وَعَشِيًّا and (in) the evening

خرج قَامَ حَرِبَ وَحَى سبح بَكَرَ عَشَا


And he (Zakariya) came out to his people from the prayer-place (room), and he gave indication (suggested) to them to praise Him (Allah) morning and evening.

19:12


يَايَحْيَىٰ O Yahya!

الْكِتَابَ the Scripture

وَآتَيْنَاهُ And We gave him

صَبِيًّا (when he was) a child

١٢

أَخَذَ كَتَبَ قَوِيَ أتى حَكَمَ صبا


“O Yahya, hold the Scripture with strength,” We gave him wisdom in childhood.

وَحَنَانًا And affection

And compassion from Us, and righteousness. And he has been God-fearing.

وَبَرًّا And dutiful

عَصِيًّا disobedient

١٤

بَرَّ وَلَدَ كَانَ جَبَرَ عَصَى


He was obedient to his parents and never acted forcefully disobediently towards them.

وَسَلَامٌ And peace be

سلِم يوْم وَلَدَ يوْم مَاتَ يوْم بعث حي


And Peace is on him the Day he was born, the Day he dies, and the Day he will be raised alive.

وَاذْكُرْ And mention

And mention Maryam in the Book, when she withdrew from her family and took shelter in the eastern (side).

19:17


فَاتَّخَذَتْ Then she took

أَخَذَ دُون حَجَبَ رَسِلَ رَاحَ مَثَلَ بشر سوِي


She made herself screened (separate, away) from others (concealed). Then We sent our spirit (angel) to her, and he became equally like a man to her.

19:18


قَالَتْ She said

Qalat

إِنِّىٓ Indeed I

أَعُوذُ [I] seek refuge

بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ with the Most Gracious

مِنكَ from you

قَالَ عاذ رَحِمَ كَانَ تقى


She said, “I take the protection (shelter) of the Most Merciful from you if you are God-fearing.”

He said, “I am only a messenger of your Rabb to grant you a righteous boy.”

قَالَتْ She said

قَالَ أنى كَانَ غَلِمَ مسّ بشر كَانَ بغى


She said, “How will I have a boy for me when no human being has touched me, and I am not a fornicator?

19:21


قَالَ He said

قَالَ قَالَ رَبَّ هَانَ جعل آ ىي -آية أَنِسَ رَحِمَ كَانَ أمر قَضَى


He said, “That is how it will be for you; your Rabb said, ‘It is easy on Me, and We will make him a sign for humankind and a mercy from Us. This matter is already decided (concluded).’”

19:22


فَحَمَلَتْهُ So she conceived him

So, she carried him in pregnancy; then she retreated with him to a faraway (remote) place.

فَأَجَآءَهَا Then drove her

جَاءَ مَخَضَ جَزِعَ نَخَلَ قَالَ مَاتَ قَبِلَ كَانَ نَسِيَ نَسِيَ


Then labor pain came to her; she set out (close) to the shaft of a date palm tree. She said, “O, I wish I were dead before this and would have been completely forgotten.”

19:24


فَنَادَاهَا So cried to her

ندا تحْت حَزَنَ جعل رَبَّ تحْت سَرَّ


After that, he called her from below her: “Do not be grieved; your Rabb has made underneath you a water stream.

19:25


وَهُزِّىٓ And shake

تُسَاقِطْ it will drop

رُطَبًا fresh dates

هَزَّ جَزِعَ نَخَلَ سَقَطَ رطُب جَنَى


And shake the shaft of the date-palm tree; it will drop on you fresh and ripe dates harvested.”

أكل شَرِبَ قَرَّ عين رَأَى بشر أحد قَالَ نَذَرَ رَحِمَ صَام أكل يوْم نَسِيَ


“So, eat, drink, and keep delighted to the eyes. If you see any human, say, ‘I am fasting in dedication to the Most Merciful, so I will not speak to any human today.’”

فَأَتَتْ Then she came

أتى قَامَ حَمَلَ قَالَ جَاءَ شِاءَ فَرَىَ


Then she came to her tribe, carrying him. They said, “O Maryam, indeed, you brought something offensive.

يَاأُخْتَ O sister

O sister of Haroon, your father was not in wrong matters, and your mother was not unjust.”

فَأَشَارَتْ Then she pointed

So, she pointed to him (ESA-infant), and they said, “How can we talk to a child in the cradle?”

قَالَ عَبَدَ إِله أتى كَتَبَ جعل نبأ


He (ESA) said, “I am a worshipper of Allah. He has given me the Book and made me a prophet”.

وَجَعَلَنِى And He (has) made me

And He made me a blessing wherever I had been and commanded me with the (establishment of) prayers and almsgiving (the practice of giving money or food to poor people and charity) as long as I live.

And dutiful obedience to my mother, and He did not make me forceful disobedient.

It is not for Allah that He takes a son. Praise be to Him. When He decides a matter, He only says it is to be done, then it occurs.

وَإِنَّ And indeed

“And indeed, Allah is My Rabb and your Rabb, so worship Him. This is a straight path.”

The factions started to differ among themselves. So, disbelievers will witness a disaster on a tremendous Day.

Listen to them and watch on the Day they will come to Us. But the unjust on the Day will be evidently lost.

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ And warn them

O, my father, I am afraid that a punishment from the Most Merciful will seize you; then you will become a friend of shaitan.”

He said, “Do you shun from my gods, O Ibrahim? If you do not terminate, I will stone you. So, separate from me for an extended period.”

And I will withdraw from you and what you call (invoke) besides Allah. And I will invoke to my Rabb hoping that I will not be in difficulty in praying (for you) to my Rabb.”

When he separated from them and what they worshiped other than Allah, We granted him Ishaq and Yaqoob. And all (of them), We made prophets.

And he used to instruct his family with prayer and charity, and his Rabb accepted him.

These are among the blessed prophets of the progeny of Adam, those We carried with Noah, and from descendants of Ibrahim and Israel, and those We guided, and We chose (them). Whenever verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping. ۩ Prostration

Then (those who) followed as successors omitted the prayers and followed their desires. Soon, they will meet the misguided.

تاب أمُن عَمِلَ صَلَحَ دَخَلَ جنّ ظَلَمَ شِاءَ


Except those who repented, believed, and did righteous deeds. They will be entered into the Gardens and will not be unjustly treated in anything.

جنّ عَدْن وَعَدَ رَحِمَ عَبَدَ غَابَ كَانَ وَعَدَ أتى


Gardens of Eden, unseen, promised by the Most Merciful for his worshippers. It is His promise to come (original promise).

يَسْمَعُونَ they will hear

سَمَعَ لغا سلِم رَزَقَ بَكَرَ عَشَا


They will not hear in it idle talk but only peace. And they will have their sustenance (provisions) in the morning and evening.

Tilka

الْجَنَّةُ (is) Paradise

This is the Garden of Paradise that We will make inheritors for our worshippers, whoever has been God-fearing.

نَزَلَ أ مر رَبَّ بَا نَ يدي خَلَفَ بَا نَ كَانَ رَبَّ نَسِيَ


(And Angels, Gabriel Said)“We do not descend except as command from your Rabb. To Him belongs whatever is before us, whatever is behind us, and whatever is between. Your Rabb never forgets.”

رَبَّ سما أَ رَضْ بَا نَ عَبَدَ صَبَرَ عَبَدَ علِم سَمِي


Rabb of the universe and the earth and whatever is between them. So, worship Him, and be patient (persevere) in worshipping Him. Do you know any name (worthy of being) equal to Him?

19:66


وَيَقُولُ And says

And humankind says, “When I am dead, will I be brought back alive?”

فَوَرَبِّكَ So by your Lord

لَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْ surely We will gather them

رَبَّ حَشَرَ شَيَطن حَضَرَ حَالَ جَثَا


By your Rabb, We will gather them, and the shaitans, then We will present them to be surrounded by Hell, they will be falling on their knees.

19:69


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

لَنَنزِعَنَّ surely We will drag out

عِتِيًّا (in) rebellion

٦٩

نَزَعَ كُلّ شَاعَ شَدَّ رَحِمَ عَتَا


Then, We will pull out those fiercely defiant to the Merciful from every group.

19:70


ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

لَنَحْنُ surely We

أَعْلَمُ know best

بِالَّذِينَ [of] those who

biallatheena

هُمْ [they]

أَوْلَىٰ (are) most worthy

بِهَا therein

صِلِيًّا (of) being burnt

علِم وَلِيَ صَلَى


Then surely, We Know better who will be the first to be burned.

وَإِن And (there is) not

Every one of you will arrive at its place with a final decision by your Rabb.

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

نُنَجِّى We will deliver

الَّذِينَ those who

اتَّقَواْ feared (Allah)

وَّنَذَرُ and We will leave

wanatharu
و ذ ر
الظَّالِمِينَ the wrongdoers

فِيهَا therein

جِثِيًّا bent (on) knees

jithiyyan

٧٢

نَجَا تقى نَذَرَ ظَلَمَ جَثَا


Then, We will rescue those who are God-fearing, and We will leave the unjust in there, falling on their knees.

19:73


وَإِذَا And when

نَدِيًّا (in) assembly

تلو آ ىي -آية بَا نَ قَالَ كَفَرَ أَ مُنَ فرق خَيرَ قَامَ ندا


When Our verses are recited to them with clear proof, those unjust say to those who believed, “Which of the groups (yours or ours) has better (preferred) standing and a better club (gatherings)?”

19:74


وَكَمْ And how many?

أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed

هَلَكَ قَبِلَ قرن حَسَنَ أَثَّ رَأَى


How many associations have We destroyed before them? They were better in possession and appearance.

قَالَ كَانَ فِي ضلّ مدّ رَحِمَ مدّ رَأَى وَعَدَ عَذُبَ سَاعته علِم شَرَّ مَكُنَ ضَعُفَ جُنْد


Say those who choose the wrong path are granted respite (extended life spans) by the Most Merciful by extending (life) time. Once they see what is promised to them, either punishment (in this world) or resurrection (final time), they will recognize who has acted evilly and was associated with weaker troops (alliances).

وَيَزِيدُ And increases

زَادَ إِلَٰه هَدَى هَدَى بَقِىَ صَلَحَ خَيرَ عَنَدَ رَبَّ ثَابَ خَيرَ رَدَّ


Allah increases guidance for those who desire to be rightly guided. And the good deeds will remain everlasting as best near your Rabb, the best reward, and the best return.

19:77


أَفَرَأَيْتَ Then have you seen?

رَأَى كَفَرَ آ ىي -آية قَالَ أتى مَال وَلَدَ


So, Did you see the one who became ungrateful with Our signs and said, “I will surely be given (I deserve) wealth and children ?”

19:78


أَاطَّلَعَ Has he looked?

Has the invisible (future, unseen) appeared, or did he take a commitment from the Most Merciful?

كَلَّا Nay

Kalla

سَنَكْتُبُ We will record

كَتَبَ قَالَ مدّ عَذُبَ مدّ


Not at all! We will record what he says and give him extended punishment, with additions.

وَنَرِثُهُۥ And We will inherit (from) him

Then We will make him inherit what he says, and he will come to Us alone.

وَاتَّخَذُوا And they have taken

أَخَذَ دُون إِله إِله كَانَ عَزَّ


They take other than Allah as gods to have those (idols) as an honor.

كَلَّا Nay

Kalla

سَيَكْفُرُونَ they will deny

كَفَرَ عَبَدَ كَانَ ضَدَّ


Certainly not! They will deny their worship (the basis of worshipping others other than Allah was wrong, to begin with), and they will become adversity to them.

19:83


أَلَمْ Do not?

رَأَى رَسِلَ شَيَطن كَفَرَ وَزّ وَزّ


Do you not see that We send the shaitans on the ungrateful? To excite (incite) them with excitement (incitement).

19:84


فَلَا So (do) not

عَجِلَ عَدَّ عَدَّ


So, do not expedite them. We have counted the number (of days they will live).

19:85


يَوْمَ (The) Day

الْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous

الرَّحْمَٰنِ the Most Gracious

وَفْدًا (as) a delegation

يوْم حَشَرَ تقى رَحِمَ وَفَدَ


On the Day, We will gather the God-fearing to the Most Merciful as the arrival of a delegation.

19:86


وَنَسُوقُ And We will drive

الْمُجْرِمِينَ the criminals

سَاقَ جرم ورد


And We will drive the sinners to be received in Hell.

يَمْلِكُونَ they will have the power

الشَّفَاعَةَ (of) the intercession

ملك شَفَعَ أَخَذَ عَنَدَ رَحِمَ عَهِدَ


They will not be able to intercede except those who have taken an assignment from the Most Merciful.

19:88


وَقَالُوا And they say

الرَّحْمَٰنُ the Most Gracious

قَالَ أَخَذَ رَحِمَ وَلَدَ


And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken a son.”

لَّقَدْ Verily

Indeed, you have come up with a harmful thing.

هَدًّا (in) devastation

كَادَ سما فَطَرَ شَقَّ أَ رَضْ خَرَّ جبل هَدًّ


The sky almost tore open, the earth split apart, and the mountains fell crashing.

19:91

Because they invoke for the Most Merciful a son.

وَمَا And not

لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ for the Most Gracious

وَلَدًا a son

بغى رَحِمَ أَخَذَ وَلَدَ


And there is no purpose for the Most Merciful to take a son.

كُلّ فِي سما أَ رَضْ أتى رَحِمَ عَبَدَ


None who is in the universe and the earth but comes to The Most Merciful in subjugation (enslaved).

أَحْصَاهُمْ He has enumerated them

حَصَ عَدَّ عَدَّ


Indeed, He has calculated them and counted them in numbers.

وَكُلُّهُمْ And all of them

And everyone will be coming on the Day of Standing as an individual (alone, with nobody to support them).

إِنَّ Indeed

Inna

الَّذِينَ those who

allatheena

اٰمَنُواْ believed

الصَّالِحَاتِ good deeds

سَيَجْعَلُ will bestow

لَهُمُ for them

الرَّحْمَٰنُ the Most Gracious

alrrahmanu

وُدًّا affection

wuddan
و د د
٩٦

أَ مُنَ عَمِلَ صَلَحَ جعل رَحِمَ ودّ


Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds, the Most Merciful, will grant love (Grant their wish to stay under His protection).

فَإِنَّمَا So only

Fainnama

يَسَّرْنَاهُ We (have) made it easy

yassarnahu

بِلِسَانِكَ in your tongue

لِتُبَشِّرَ that you may give glad tidings

بِهِ with it

الْمُتَّقِينَ (to) the righteous

وَتُنذِرَ and you warn

بِهِۦ with it

bihi

قَوْمًا a people

qawman

لُّدًّا hostile

luddan

٩٧

سَرَّ لَسِنَ بشِر تقى نَذَرَ قَامَ لَدَّ


It has been made more accessible with your tongue to convey good news to the God-fearing and warn quarreling nations.

وَكَمْ And how many?

هَلَكَ قَبِلَ قرن حَسَّ أحد سَمَعَ رَكَزَ


And How many associations have we destroyed before them? Do you sense any of them or hear from their centers? (bustling cities of those civilizations are now dead silent).
