14:1


الٓر Alif Laam Ra

Aliflamra

كِتَابٌ A Book

kitabun

أَنزَلْنَاهُ which We have revealed

لِتُخْرِجَ so that you may bring out

النَّاسَ the mankind

الظُّلُمَاتِ the darkness[es]

النُّورِ the light

بِإِذْنِ by the permission

الْعَزِيزِ (of) the All-Mighty

الْحَمِيدِ the Praiseworthy

كَتَبَ نَزَلَ خرج أَنِسَ ظَلَمَ نَار أَذن رَبَّ صِرَاط عَزَّ حَمِدَ


Alif Lam Raa. We have sent down to you a Book to bring out humankind from the darkness to the light with the permission of their Rabb on a path to the Most Powerful and the Most Praiseworthy.

14:2


اللهِ Allah

Allahi
أ ل ه
الَّذِى (is) the One

allathee

لَهُۥ to Him (belongs)

lahu

مَا whatever

ma

فِى (is) in

fee

السَّمَاوَاتِ the heavens

وَمَا and whatever

wama

فِى (is) in

fee

الْأَرْضِ the earth

أ ر ض
وَوَيْلٌ And woe

wawaylun
و ي ل
لِّلْكَافِرِينَ to the disbelievers

عَذَابٍ the punishment

شَدِيدٍ severe

إِله فِي سما فِي أَ رَضْ وَيْل كَفَرَ عَذُبَ شَدَّ


Allah is the One to Whom belongs whatever is in the universe and the earth. And for the nonbelievers, there is the calamity of a painful punishment.

الَّذِينَ Those who

ضَلَالٍ astray

بَعِيدٍ (are) far

baAAeedin

٣

حَبَّ حي دَنَا أخر صَدَّ سَبَلَ إِله بغى عَوِجَ فِي ضلّ بعُد


Those who prefer (love) the life of this world rather than the Hereafter, and they oppose the path of Allah and seek deviation, are on a far-reaching falsehood.

وَمَآ And not

وَهُوَ And He

الْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty

الْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise

٤

رَسِلَ رَسِلَ لَسِنَ قَامَ بَا نَ ضلّ إِلَٰه شِاءَ هَدَى شِاءَ عَزَّ حَكَمَ


We did not send a messenger except in the same language as the people (spoke) to make it evident. Allah leaves them misguided to whomever He desires and guides whomever He desires. And He is the Most Powerful, the Wisest.

14:5


وَلَقَدْ And verily

أَرْسَلْنَا We sent

لَآيَاتٍ surely (are) the signs

شَكُورٍ and thankful

رَسِلَ آ ىي -آية خرج قَامَ ظَلَمَ نَار ذَكّرَ أَيُّ إِله فِي آ ىي -آية كُلّ صَبَرَ شَكَرَ


And We sent Musa with Our signs: "Bring your nation out of darkness and into the light, and remind them with the days (times) of Allah (the time when they were asking help from Allah to rescue from Firon)." In this, there are signs for every thankful patient person.

وَيُذَبِّحُونَ and were slaughtering

وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ and letting live

نِسَآءَكُمْ your women

nisaakum

وَفِى And in

ذَٰلِكُم that

thalikum

بَلَآءٌ (was) a trial

رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord

عَظِيمٌ great

قَالَ قَامَ ذَكّرَ نَعَمَ إِله نَجَا اول سَامَ سَا ءَ عَذُبَ ذَبَحَ اِبْن حي نَسَأَ بلو رَبَّ عَظُمَ


And when Musa said to his nation, “Remember blessings of Allah on you, when He rescued you from the family of Firon, who used to punish you with terrible suffering, and they used to slaughter your sons and (while) let your women live. And in this, for you, was a great test from your Rabb.”

14:7


وَإِذْ And when

تَأَذَّنَ proclaimed

شَكَرْتُمْ you are thankful

لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ surely I will increase you

كَفَرْتُمْ you are ungrateful

إِنَّ indeed

عَذَابِى My punishment

لَشَدِيدٌ (is) surely severe

أَذن رَبَّ شَكَرَ زَادَ كَفَرَ عَذُبَ شَدَّ


And when your Rabb announced: “If you become thankful, then there is more (reward) for you, but if you become ungrateful, then My punishment is very severe.”

14:8


وَقَالَ And said

لَغَنِىٌّ certainly (is) Free of need

حَمِيدٌ Praiseworthy

٨

قَالَ كَفَرَ فِي أَ رَضْ جَمَعَ إِلَٰه غنِي حَمِدَ


And Musa said, “Even if you become ungrateful along with whoever is on the earth altogether. Allah is free of any need (from anybody), and He is All Praiseworthy.”

أَلَمْ Has not?

أتى نبأ قَبِلَ قَامَ عاد بعُد علِم إِلَٰه جَاءَ رَسِلَ بَا نَ رَدَّ يدي فَاهَ قَالَ كَفَرَ رَسِلَ شَكَّ دَعَا رَابَ


Has not the news of those before you reached you, the people of Noah, Ad, and Thamud? And those after them. No one knows them except Allah. Their messengers came to them with evident proof, but they returned (put) their hands on their mouths, and they said, “We disbelieved in what you were sent and doubtful of what you called us to believe".

قَالَ رَسِلَ إِله شَكَّ فَطَرَ سما أَ رَضْ دَعَا غفر ذَنْب أخر أجل سَمِي قَالَ بشر مَثَلَ رَادَ صَدَّ كَانَ عَبَدَ أَب أتى سُلَط بَا نَ


Their messengers said, “Do you doubt in Allah, The Creator of the universe and the earth? He is calling you to forgive your sins, and He will delay you up to an appointed period (give you time to repent and forgive).” They said, “You are only but a man like us; you desire that we turn away from what our forefathers were worshipping, so bring us clear proof.”

قَالَتْ Said

فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust

الْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers

١١

قَالَ رَسِلَ بشر مَثَلَ إِلَٰه مَنَّ شِاءَ عَبَدَ كَانَ أتى سُلَط أَذن إِله إِله وَكَلَ أمُن


Their messengers said, “We are only a man like you, but Allah grants favor to whoever He desires from His slaves. It is not for us that we can bring you proof with authority, except with the permission of Allah. And the believers put their trust in Allah.”

14:12


وَمَا And what?

وَقَدْ while certainly

وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ And surely we will bear with patience

عَلَىٰ on

اٰذَيْتُمُونَا harm you may cause us

وَعَلَى And upon

waAAala

اللهِ Allah

Allahi
أ ل ه
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust

falyatawakkali
و ك ل
الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ the ones who put (their) trust

almutawakkiloona
و ك ل
١٢

وَكَلَ إِله هَدَى سَبَلَ صَبَرَ أَ ذِ يَ إِله وَكَلَ وَكَلَ


"And why should we not trust Allah when He has already guided our path? "We will be patient with you on what you harm us.". And on Allah is the trust of those who are trusting."

14:13


وَقَالَ And said

لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم Surely we will drive you out

لَتَعُودُنَّ surely you should return

مِلَّتِنَا our religion

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ So inspired

و ح ي
إِلَيْهِمْ to them

ilayhim

رَبُّهُمْ their Lord

rabbuhum

لَنُهْلِكَنَّ We will surely destroy

lanuhlikanna
ه ل ك
الظَّالِمِينَ the wrongdoers

١٣

قَالَ كَفَرَ رَسِلَ خرج رَضِيَ عاد فِي مَلَّ وَحَى رَبَّ هَلَكَ ظَلَمَ


Those who were ungrateful said to their messengers, “We will drive you out of our land unless you revert to our nation.” Then their Rabb inspired them, “We are going to destroy the unjust.”

14:14


وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّـكُمُ And surely We will make you dwell

وَعِيدِ My Threat

١٤

سَكَنَ أَ رَضْ بعُد خَفَيَ قَامَ خَافَ عِيد


“And We will inhabit you in the earth after them. That is for whoever fears opposing (resisting) Me and fears what is promised (the punishment).

وَاسْتَفْتَحُواْ And they sought victory

فتح خَابَ كُلّ جَبَرَ عَنَدَ


And they asked (Allah) to grant victory, and every tyrant (who was) resisting stubbornly was unsuccessful.

جَهَنَّمُ (is) Hell

وَيُسْقَىٰ and he will be made to drink

رَأَى سَقَى مَا ءَ صَدَّ


Behind him is Hell, and he will be made to drink from the liquid of pus (dead blood cells).

يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ He will sip it

وَيَأْتِيهِ And will come to him

NF كَادَ سَاغَ أتى مَاتَ كُلّ مَكُنَ مَاتَ رَأَى عَذُبَ غَلُظَ


It will be poured down through his throat, and about to (will not be able to) swallow it. Death will come to him from every direction, but he will not die—and from behind him (will follow him) a harsh punishment.

الْبَعِيدُ far

١٨

مَثَلَ كَفَرَ رَبَّ عَمِلَ رَمَدَ شَدَّ رَاحَ فِي يوْم عَصَفَ قدر كَسَبَ شِاءَ ضلّ بعُد


The example of those who are ungrateful to their Rabb, their deeds: are like burnt ashes, violently blown away in the wind on a stormy day. They will not amount to anything that they have earned. That is (because they were in) far-away misguidance.

أَلَمْ Do not?

Alam

رَأَى إِلَٰه خَلَقَ سما أَ رَضْ حَقَّ شِاءَ ذهب أتى خَلَقَ جدّ


Do you not see that Allah has created the universe and earth with the truth (suitable, fitting, perfect)? If He desires, He can take you away and bring (replace you with) a new creation.

وَمَا And not

And that will not be difficult on Allah.

بَرَزَ إِلَٰه جَمَعَ قَالَ ضَعَفَ كَبَرَ كَانَ تبِع غنِي عَذُبَ إِله شِاءَ قَالَ هَدَى إِلَٰه هَدَى سَوِيَ جَزِعَ صَبَرَ حَاصَ


And they will appear before Allah altogether. Then the weak will say to those who are arrogant (strong). “We have been your followers; can you be of any use to save us from the punishment of Allah? They would say, “If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It is equal to us; whether we feel sorry or become patient, we have no escape.”

قَالَ شَيَطن قَضَى أمر إِلَٰه وَعَدَ وَعَدَ حَقَّ وَعَدَ خَلَفَ كَانَ سُلَط دَعَا جاب لَامَ لَامَ نفُس صَرَخَ صَرَخَ كَفَرَ شَرِكَ قَبِلَ ظَلَمَ عَذُبَ أَ لِمَ


And the Shaitan will say when the matter is decided, Indeed, “Allah has promised you the real promise, and I promised you, but I contradicted you. I had no authority (control) on you, except that I invited you, and you responded for me, so do not blame me and blame yourselves. It is not for me to cry for help for you, and you do not cry for help for me. Indeed, I renege with what you made me partner (with Allah) before. The unjust, for them, is a painful punishment.”

دَخَلَ أَ مُنَ عَمِلَ صَلَحَ جنّ جَرَى تحْت نهر خَلَدَ أَذن رَبَّ حي سلِم


And (But) those who believed and did righteous deeds, will be entered into the Gardens, with rivers running below them, living therein forever with the permission of their Rabb. Greetings for them in there will be: “Peace.”

رَأَى كَيدَ ضَرَبَ إِلَٰه مَثَلَ كلِمُ طَابَ شَجَرَ طَابَ أ صُل ثَبُتَ فَرَعَ فِي سَمَا


Do you not see how Allah gives an example of a good word (decent talk)? Like a good tree, its roots are established and towering high in the sky.

It brings out its food every time with the permission of its Rabb. Allah provides humanity with examples they may remember (bear in mind).

An example of indecent talk is like a bad tree uprooted from above the earth, and there is nothing in it to stabilize (root).

ثَبُتَ إِلَٰه أَ مُنَ قَالَ ثَبُتَ فِي حي دَنَا أخر ضلّ إِلَٰه ظَلَمَ فَعَلَ إِلَٰه شِاءَ


Allah firmly establishes those who believe with words of certainty in the life of this world and the Hereafter. Allah leaves the unjust misguided. Allah does what He desires.

Do you not see to those who have changed (responded) blessings of Allah with ungratefulness and justified (made) their nation the place of destruction?

جَهَنَّمَ Hell

Jahannama

يَصْلَوْنَهَا (in) it they will burn

Hell, they will burn therein. What a wretched resting place.

They made partners equal for Allah to misguide from His path. Say, "Enjoy yourselves; you will eventually come to the Fire."

Tell My worshippers who believed in establishing the prayers and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a day comes when there will be no deal to be made and no friend (to help).

إِلَٰه خَلَقَ سما أَ رَضْ نَزَلَ سَمَا مَا ءَ خرج ثَمَرَ رَزَقَ سَخَرَ فَلَكَ جَرَى فِي بَحَرَ أمر سَخَرَ نهر


Allah is the One who created the universe and the earth, sent down water from the sky, and brought out fruits from it as provisions for livelihood for you. And subjugated ships for your (use) to run their course in the ocean from His command and the rivers for your utilization (service).

وَسَخَّرَ And He subjected

سَخَرَ شَمَسَ قَمَرَ دأب سَخَرَ لَيْل نهر


He subjugated the sun and the moon; both persevere their course and subjugated (employed) night and the day for you (to your benefit).

وَآتَاكُم And He gave you

أتى كُلّ سأل عَدَّ نَعَمَ إِله حَصَ أَنِسَ ظَلَمَ كَفَرَ


And He has given you all that you asked Him. And if you count favors of Allah, you cannot count them (they are countless, innumerable to calculate). Indeed, humankind is unjust and ungrateful.

And (recall) that when Ibrahim said, “O my Rabb, make this town a peaceful place and keep my descendants and me away (apart, removed) from worshipping the idols.”

رَبَّ ضلّ كَثَرَ أَنِسَ تبِع عَصَى غفر رَحِمَ


“O my Rabb, they have misled many of the humankind. Whoever follows me, then he will be from me, and whoever will disobey me, then You are Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

رَبَّ سَكَنَ ذَرَّ فَدَى غير ذُو زَرَعَ عَنَدَ بَا تَ حَرُمَ رَبَّ قَامَ صلو جعل فُؤَاد أَنِسَ هوى رَزَقَ ثَمَرَ شَكَرَ


“O our Rabb, I have settled down my family in a valley with nothing to grow, near your Sacred House, O our Rabb, for them to establish prayers. So, put passions in the hearts of humankind towards them, and provide them with a source of sustenance from the fruits, so that they may give thanks to You.

“O our Rabb, You Know what we hide and what we disclose. And nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth and nothing in the sky.”

“Praise for Allah, the One Who has granted me, in my old age, Ismail and Ishaq (Isak). Indeed, my Rabb listens to the calls (prayers).”

الْأَبْصَارُ the eyes

حَسَبَ إِلَٰه غَفَلَ عَمِلَ ظَلَمَ أخر يوْم شَخَصَ فِي بصُر


And do not consider that Allah is unaware of the unjust about what they are doing. Indeed, they are delayed for a day when they will recognize themselves (their eyes will see).

مُهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead

هَوَآءٌ (are) empty

هَطَعَ قَنِعَ رَأَسَ رَدَّ طَرَفَ فُؤَاد هوى


Protruding their necks (oblivious, unaware), their heads up, their gaze not returning to them (not doing a reality check on themselves), and their hearts empty (lacking feelings of what livelihood, good life, and luxuries of life Allah has given them).

وَأَنذِرِ And warn

نَذَرَ أَنِسَ يوْم أتى عَذُبَ قَالَ ظَلَمَ رَبَّ أخر أجل قرُب جاب دَعَا تبِع رَسِلَ كَانَ قَسَمَ قَبِلَ زَالَ


And warn humankind of the Day when the punishment will come to them, and those unjust will say, “O our Rabb, delay us for a short term, and we will answer Your call, and we will follow the messengers.” Have you not been promising this from before, (you thought) there will be no end (of the good life) for you?

وَسَكَنتُمْ And you dwelt

وَضَرَبْنَا and We put forth

لَكُمُ for you

الْأَمْثَالَ the examples

٤٥

سَكَنَ فِي سَكَنَ ظَلَمَ نفُس بَا نَ كَيدَ فَعَلَ ضَرَبَ مَثَلَ


And you inhabited in dwellings of those who were unjust themselves, and it became clear to you (you knew that) how We dealt with them, and We made them exemplary for you.

14:46


وَقَدْ And indeed

مَكَرُواْ they planned

لِتَزُولَ that should be moved

مِنْهُ by it

الْجِبَالُ the mountains

مَكَرَ مَكَرَ عَنَدَ إِله مَكَرَ كَانَ مَكَرَ زَالَ جبل


And they planned to deceive by their deception, but Allah knows of their deceiving plots, even if their planning was (as big as) to erase (move) the mountain.

فَلَا So (do) not

تَحْسَبَنَّ you think

مُخْلِفَ will fail

وَعْدِهِۦ (to) keep His Promise

waAAdihi

رُسُلَهُۥٓ (to) His Messengers

إِنَّ Indeed

اللهَ Allah

عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty

AAazeezun

ذُو Owner (of)

ذ ا ت
انْتِقَامٍ Retribution

ن ق م
٤٧

حَسَبَ إِلَٰه خَلَفَ وَعَدَ رَسِلَ إِلَٰه عَزَّ ذُو نَقَمَ


Then do not consider that Allah will defer His promise to His messenger. Allah is Most Powerful to punish them (non-believers who oppose His messengers).

يَوْمَ (On the) Day

الْوَاحِدِ the One

الْقَهَّارِ the Irresistible

٤٨

يوْم بَدَلَ أَ رَضْ غير أَ رَضْ سما بَرَزَ إِلَٰه أ حد قَهَرَ


On the Day when the earth will be changed to another (form) of earth and the universe, they will appear to (stand before) Allah, the Single Most Subduer (Subjugator).

وَتَرَى And you will see

يَوْمَئِذٍ (on) that Day

الْأَصْفَادِ the chains

رَأَى جرم قرن فِي صَفَدَ


And you will see the criminals on that Day joined (chained) in the shackles.

سَرَابِيلُهُم Their garments

وَتَغْشَىٰ and will cover

وُجُوهَهُمُ their faces

سَرْبَلَ قَطَرَ غَشَا وَجَهَ نَار


Their garments made of tar, and the flames covering their faces.

لِيَجْزِىَ So that may recompense

جَزَى إِلَٰه كُلّ نفُس كَسَبَ إِلَٰه سَرُعَ حَسَبَ


Allah will reward every soul with what he has earned; Indeed, Allah is Fast in keeping the account.

هَٰذَا This

Hatha

بَلَاغٌ (is) a Message

لِّلنَّاسِ for the mankind

وَلِيُنذَرُواْ that they may be warned

بِهِۦ with it

bihi

وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓاْ and that they may know

ع ل م
أَنَّمَا that only

هُوَ He

huwa

إِلَٰهٌ God

ilahun

وَاحِدٌ (is) One

wahidun
و ح د
وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ and that may take heed

waliyaththakkara
ذ ك ر
أُوْلُواْ men

oloo
أ و ل
الْأَلْبَابِ (of) understanding

alalbabi

٥٢

بلغ أَنِسَ نَذَرَ علِم إِله أحد ذَكّرَ أ و لبْ


This is a message (communication, notification, declaration, announcement) to humanity to be warned of this, know that He is only One God, and remember (Allah), O, those with the intelligence.
