وَالصَّافَّاتِ By those lined

By those aligned in rows.

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ And those who drive

زَجَرَ زَجَرَ


Then those (who) restrain and limit.

37:3


فَالتَّالِيَاتِ And those who recite

Then the remembrance is recited.

37:4


إِنَّ Indeed

Inna

إِلَٰهَكُمْ your Lord

لَوَاحِدٌ (is) surely One

إِله وحد


Indeed, Your Rabb is surely One.

37:5


رَّبُّ Lord

السَّمَاوَاتِ (of) the heavens

وَالْأَرْضِ and the earth

بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between both of them

الْمَشَارِقِ (of) each point of sunrise

رَبَّ سما أَ رَضْ بَا نَ رَبَّ شَرَقَ


Rabb of the universe and the earth and everything in between them and the Rabb of the East and West (Eastern, the place of rising, the world is round, so all places on earth become east, at some point during a day of the rotation of the whole world, Rabb of the entire world).

37:6


إِنَّا Indeed We

زَيَّنَّا [We] adorned

الدُّنْيَا [the world]

بِزِينَةٍ with an adornment

الْكَوَاكِبِ (of) the stars

زَانَ سَمِي دَنَا زَانَ كَوْكَب


Indeed, We adorn the sky of the world with the decoration of the stars.

37:7


وَحِفْظًا And (to) guard

And We have protected it from every defiant shaitan.

سَمَعَ مَلَأَ عَلَا قَذَفَ كُلّ جَنَبَ


They are not allowed to listen to the Angels of the High and are thrown away (pelted) from every direction.

37:9


دُحُورًا Repelled

Duhooran

وَلَهُمْ and for them

عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment

دَحَرَ عَذُبَ وَصَبَ


Driven away and, for them, a lasting (permanent) punishment.

37:10


إِلَّا Except

خَطِفَ خَطِفَ تبِع شَهَبَ ثَقَبَ


Except for him who seizes, (and) carries away, (the information) then he is followed with a piercing blaze (blazing, shining jet streams).

37:11


فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ Then ask them

فَهِمَ شَدَّ خَلَقَ خَلَقَ خَلَقَ طِيِن لزب


Ask them, “Are they a strong (powerful) creation or whom We created (Do they think they were created stronger by someone other than Allah).” (No) We created (all of) them (the same) with the sticky clay.

37:12


بَلْ Nay

Bal

عَجِبْتَ you wonder

وَيَسْخَرُونَ while they mock

عَجَبَ سَخَرَ


But you marvel, and they make a mockery.

37:13


وَإِذَا And when

Waitha

ذُكِّرُوا they are reminded

يَذْكُرُونَ they receive admonition

ذَكّرَ ذَكّرَ


And when they are reminded, they do not remember (listen, pay attention).

وَإِذَا And when

Waitha

رَأَوْا they see

اٰيَةً a Sign

يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ they mock

رَأَى آ ىي -آية سَخَرَ


And when they see signs-verses of the Quran, they make it an object of ridicule (laugh off).

37:15


وَقَالُوا And they say

إِنْ Not

هَٰذَآ (is) this

إِلَّا except

سِحْرٌ a magic

قَالَ سَحَرَ بَا نَ


And they say, “That is only clear magic.”

37:16


أَئِذَا Is it when?

مِتْنَا we are dead

أَءِنَّا shall we then?

مَاتَ كَانَ تَرِبَ عَظُمَ بعث


When we are dead and become dust and bones, will we be revived?

أَوَاٰبَآؤُنَا Or our fathers?

And our earlier forefathers?

37:18


قُلْ Say

نَعَمْ Yes

وَأَنتُمْ and you

دَاخِرُونَ (will be) humiliated

قَالَ دَاخَ


Say, “Yes, and you will be totally submissive.”

37:19


فَإِنَّمَا Then only

Fainnama

هِىَ it

زَجْرَةٌ (will be) a cry

وَاحِدَةٌ single

فَإِذَا then behold!

هُمْ They

hum

يَنظُرُونَ will see

زَجَرَ أحد نَظَرَ


Then, when they will be scolded only once, then they will be staring (silently).

37:20


وَقَالُوا And they will say

يَاوَيْلَنَآ O woe to us!

هَٰذَا This

hatha

يَوْمُ (is the) Day

الدِّينِ (of) the Recompense

٢٠

قَالَ يوْم دَنَا


They will say, “O woe to us. This is the Last Day of Judgment.”

37:21


هَٰذَا This

يَوْمُ (is the) Day

“This is the day of the decision that you have been denying.

37:22


احْشُرُواْ Gather

وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ and their kinds

وَمَا and what

wama

كَانُوا they used (to)

يَعْبُدُونَ worship

حَشَرَ ظَلَمَ زَاجَ كَانَ عَبَدَ


Gather those unjust, their spouses, and what they used to worship.

37:23

Other than Allah, guide them to the straight way (path) of Hell.

37:24


وَقِفُوهُمْ And stop them

Waqifoohum

إِنَّهُم indeed they

مَّسْئُولُونَ (are) to be questioned

Hold them. They will be questioned.”

37:25

What is (the matter) with you? Why do you not help each other?

On this day, they will be in submission.

وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach

يَتَسَآءَلُونَ questioning one another

قَبِلَ بَعَضَ بَعَضَ سأل


They will come forward, questioning each other.

37:28


قَالُوٓاْ They will say

إِنَّكُمْ Indeed you

كُنتُمْ [you] used (to)

تَأْتُونَنَا come (to) us

عَنِ from

الْيَمِينِ the right

قَالَ كَانَ أتى يَمَنَ


They will say, “You used to come to us from the right (side).”

They will say (reply), “But you were not going to be believers.

And we did not have any authority over you. But you were the nation of transgressors.

37:31


فَحَقَّ So has been proved true

Then we deserve the truth of the word of our Rabb on us. We will sure taste it.

37:32


فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ So we led you astray

إِنَّا indeed we

كُنَّا were

غَاوِينَ astray

غَوَى كَانَ غَوَى


Then we misguided you. Indeed, we were misguided.”

37:33


فَإِنَّهُمْ Then indeed they

Fainnahum

يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day

الْعَذَابِ the punishment

مُشْتَرِكُونَ (will be) sharers

فِي عَذُبَ شَرِكَ


Then, indeed, on this Day, they will share (join in) the punishment.

إِنَّا Indeed We

كَذَٰلِكَ thus

بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ with the criminals

فَعَلَ جرم


Indeed, that is how We do (deal and act) with those who are unjust.

إِنَّهُمْ Indeed they

When it is said to them, “There is no god except Allah,” they used to be arrogant.

وَيَقُولُونَ And they say

أَئِنَّا Are we?

لَتَارِكُوٓا to leave

لِشَاعِرٍ for a poet

قَالَ ترك إِله شعر جنّ


And said, “Should we abandon our gods for a possessed poet?”

37:37


بَلْ Nay

Bal

جَآءَ he has brought

بِالْحَقِّ the truth

وَصَدَّقَ and confirmed

الْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers

جَاءَ حَقَّ صَدَقَ رَسِلَ


But he came to them with the truth and ratified (confirmed) the (previous) Messengers.

37:38


إِنَّكُمْ Indeed you

Innakum

لَذَائِقُوا (will) surely taste

الْعَذَابِ the punishment

ذاق عَذُبَ أَ لِمَ


Indeed, you will surely taste the painful punishment.

وَمَا And not

تُجْزَوْنَ you will be recompensed

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those

رِزْقٌ (will be) a provision

For them, there will be known provisions.

فَوَاكِهُ Fruits

فَكِهَ كَرُمَ


They will be given fruits, and they will be honored (given noble status).

In gardens of delight.

عَلَىٰ On

سَرَّ قَبِلَ


On the couches,(joyfully) facing each other.

يُطَافُ Will be circulated

Rounds will be made on them with nice springs (designated).

بَيْضَآءَ White

لِّلشَّارِبِينَ for the drinkers

بَا ضَ لذّ شَرِبَ


White, tasty for the drinkers.

"It will not seize (destroy) or exhaust (deplete, empty) it for them."

وَعِندَهُمْ And with them

قَاصِرَاتُ (will be) companions of

الطَّرْفِ modest gaze

عِينٌ (having) beautiful eyes

٤٨

عَنَدَ قَصُرَ طَرَفَ عين


With them will be winking eyes and holding back (bashful women with glances).

كَأَنَّهُنَّ As if they were

Like they were hidden pearls (precious).

Then some of them will come forward, asking each other.

A person talking to them will say, “I used to have a companion with me.

يَقُولُ Who (would) say

أَءِنَّكَ Are you indeed?

الْمُصَدِّقِينَ those who believe

قَالَ صَدَقَ


Who used to say, ‘Are you (joining) with those confirming (the belief)?

أَئِذَا Is (it) when?

That when we are dead and become dust and bones, will we be judged?"

He will say, “Have you looked out?”

He will look and will see him in the middle of Hell.

قَالَ إِله كدّ رَدِى


He will say, “By Allah, you almost have me destroyed.

If it were not for the grace of my Rabb, I would have been from the arraigned (summoned to be judged instead of forgiven)”.

Except for our first death, we will not be with those punished.”

We made this a seduction for the wrongdoers.

It is a tree that rises from the root of Hell.

طَلْعُهَا Its emerging fruit

طَلَعَ رَأَسَ شَيَطن


It appears like these are heads of the Shaitans.

فَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed they

لَآكِلُونَ (will) surely eat

فَمَالِئُونَ and fill

الْبُطُونَ (their) bellies

They will surely eat from it, and it will fill up their stomachs.

After that, indeed, for them will be hot air with heat.

After that, indeed, their return will be to Hell.

Indeed, they will meet (unite) with their misguided forefathers.

And they were rushing to follow them. (hurrying to follow their forefather's traditions).

And many of the earlier ones were misguided.

And We have sent among them warners.

And indeed, Noah called to Us, and We were excellent responders.

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ And We saved him

And We saved him and his family from great distress.

Indeed, that is how We reward the beneficent (kind).

Ibrahim was among his (Noah's) followers (adherent, group).

And said, “I am getting sick.”

فَتَوَلَّوْا So they turned away

And they came, in front of him, (confronted him) in a hurry.

He said, “Do you worship what you carve out of stonework?

إِلَٰه خَلَقَ عَمِلَ


When Allah has created you and (made) what you do?”

They said, “Build a structure for him to put him into the fire.”

فَأَرَادُوا And they intended

فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ but We made them

الْأَسْفَلِينَ the lowest

رَادَ كَيدَ جعل سَفَلَ


They intended a conspiracy on him, but We made them among the lower (losers, despicable).

وَقَالَ And he said

بلغ سعى قَالَ اِبْن رَأَى فِي نَامَ ذَبَحَ نَظَرَ رَأَى قَالَ أَب فَعَلَ أ مر وَجَدَ شِاءَ إِلَٰه صَبَرَ


Then, when he (Ismail) reached adulthood with him (Ibrahim) in (his) efforts, he (Ibrahim) said, “O my son, I saw in the dream that I slaughter you; see what you think.” He (Ismail) said, “O my Father, do what you are ordered; you will find me with the will of Allah, the patient.”

فَلَمَّآ Then when

You have fulfilled the truth of what you perceived.” Indeed, We reward the good-doers accordingly.

Indeed, this was a clear test.

وَفَدَيْنَاهُ And We ransomed him

فَدَى ذَبَحَ عَظُمَ


And then We redeemed him with a great sacrifice.

And We left his legacy for the later generations. (The slaughtering of an animal as a sacrifice to God during Eid-al-Adha keeps an Abrahamic legacy alive).

نَبِيًّا a Prophet

مِّنَ among

الصَّالِحِينَ the righteous

alssaliheena

١١٢

بشِر نبأ صَلَحَ


And We gave him the good news of Ishaq (Isak), a prophet, the righteous. (Note. This Ayat shows that Ishaq Alahi-Sallam was the younger brother, and Ismail Alahi-Sallam, the elder brother, was offered earlier in above Ayat # 102 to Allah for sacrifice).

37:113


وَبَارَكْنَا And We blessed

Wabarakna

عَلَيْهِ him

وَعَلَىٰٓ and [on]

إِسْحَٰقَ Isaac

وَمِن And of

wamin

ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا both's offspring

thurriyyatihima

مُحْسِنٌ (are) good-doers

muhsinun
ح س ن
وَظَالِمٌ and unjust

wathalimun
ظ ل م
لِّنَفْسِهِ to himself

linafsihi
ن ف س
مُبِينٌ clear

mubeenun
ب ي ن
١١٣

بَرَكَ ذَرَّ حَسَنَ ظَلَمَ نفُس بَا نَ


We blessed him and Ishaq. And (but) among his offspring, (some) are beneficent, and (some) are clearly unjust to their souls.

37:114


وَلَقَدْ And verily

Walaqad

مَنَنَّا We conferred Favor

عَلَىٰ upon

مُوسَىٰ Musa

وَهَارُونَ and Harun

مَنَّ


And indeed, We granted favor to Musa and Haroon.

37:115


وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا And We saved both of them

Wanajjaynahuma

وَقَوْمَهُمَا and their two nations

الْعَظِيمِ the great

نَجَا قَامَ كَرَبَ عَظُمَ


And We rescued (saved) both of them and their nation from the incredible pain.

37:116


وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ And We helped them

نَصَرَ كَانَ غَلَبَ


And We helped them, so they were victors.

وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا And We gave both of them

أتى كَتَبَ بَا نَ


And We granted the Book to both to be followed clearly.

37:118


وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا And We guided both of them

الصِّرَاطَ (to) the Path

هَدَى صِرَاط قَامَ


And We guided them to the straight path.

وَتَرَكْنَا And We left

الْاٰخِرِينَ the later generations

And We made them a legacy for the later generations.

سَلَامٌ Peace be

إِنَّا Indeed We

Indeed, that is how We reward the beneficent.

And indeed, Ilyas was from the Messengers.

دَعَا بَعَلَ ذَرَا حَسَنَ خَلَقَ


Do you pray to idol baal and forsake (leave) the Best Creator? (Allah, His creation is the Perfect).

37:126


اللهَ Allah

Allaha

رَبَّكُمْ your Lord

وَرَبَّ and (the) Lord

ر ب ب
اٰبَآئِكُمُ (of) your forefathers

الْأَوَّلِينَ formers, the old

alawwaleena
أ و ل
١٢٦

إِلَٰه رَبَّ رَبَّ أَب ا و ل


Allah is your Rabb and the Rabb of your earlier forefathers.”

37:127


فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him

فَإِنَّهُمْ so indeed they

fainnahum

لَمُحْضَرُونَ (will) surely be brought

١٢٧

كَذَبَ حَضَرَ


Then (but) they denied him, and thus they will be from the presented (arraigned for conviction).

إِلَّا Except

Except for the sincere servants of Allah.

وَتَرَكْنَا And We left

And indeed, Lut was among the Messengers.

We rescued (saved) him and his family all together

الْغَابِرِينَ those who remained behind

Except for an old woman from the passed over (who was left behind).

ثُمَّ Then

Thumma

دَمَّرْنَا We destroyed

دَمَرَ أخر


Then We destroyed the others.

37:137


وَإِنَّكُمْ And indeed you

لَتَمُرُّونَ surely pass

مُّصْبِحِينَ (in the) morning

مرّ صَبُحَ


And indeed, you surely pass by them in the morning.

وَبِالَّيْلِ And at night

And at night. Do you not understand?

And indeed, Younus was from the Messengers.

فَسَاهَمَ Then he drew lots

Then he (was) casted lot (in the lottery) and lost.

فَالْتَقَمَهُ Then swallowed him

فَلَوْلَآ And if not

Then had he not been from those who glorify (Allah).

يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected

Certainly, he would have stayed in its stomach until the Day they will be raised.

فَنَبَذْنَاهُ But We cast him

بِالْعَرَآءِ onto the open shore

نَبَذَ سَقَمَ


Then We threw him into an open space, and he became sick.

وَأَنبَتْنَا And We caused to grow

نَبَتَ شَجَرَ قَطَنَ


And We grew for him a tree with a variety of squash.

وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ And We sent him

Then We sent him to one hundred thousand or more.

فَـَٔامَنُوا And they believed

فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ so We gave them enjoyment

أمُن مَتَعَ حَانَ


And they became believers, so, We gave them enjoyment for some time.

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ Then ask them

أَلِرَبِّكَ Does your Lord?

Ask them, “Are the daughters for Allah, while for them are the sons?

Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnessing?”

أَلَآ No doubt

أَفَكَ قَالَ


No indeed. They are saying falsehoods from their mouth.

“Allah has children.” And they are lying.

أَصْطَفَى Has He chosen?

إِنَّهُمْ that they

لَمُحْضَرُونَ (will) surely be brought

جعل بَا نَ بَا نَ جنّ نَسَبَ علِم جنّ حَضَرَ


And they made a relationship between Him and between the jinn. But the jinn knows that they will be presented. (summoned to be judged).

سُبْحَٰنَ Glory be

Subhana

اللهِ (to) Allah

عَمَّا above what

يَصِفُونَ they attribute

سبح إِله وَصَفَ


Praise be to Allah, How far Allah is from every imperfection, they characterize.

“And nobody with Us but has his known place.

وَإِنَّا And indeed we

الصَّافُّونَ stand in rows

صُوف


And we are among those (who stand) in rows (ready to obey Commands of Our Rabb).

وَإِنَّا And indeed we

لَنَحْنُ surely [we]

الْمُسَبِّحُونَ glorify (Allah)

And we are among those who praise (Allah).”

We would be among the sincere servants (of Allah).”

فَكَفَرُوا But they disbelieved

Then (but) they were unjust to this (This Divine Book, Quran), so, they will soon know.

And indeed, Our words proceeded (before this) for Our servant Messengers.

إِنَّهُمْ Indeed they

الْمَنصُورُونَ (would be) the victorious

Indeed, to them, they are assisted.

37:173


وَإِنَّ And indeed

Wainna

جُندَنَا Our host

jundana
ج ن د
لَهُمُ surely they

lahumu

الْغَالِبُونَ (will be) those who overcome

alghaliboona
غ ل ب
١٧٣

جُنْد غَلَبَ


And indeed, Our army, surely they will be the victors.

37:174


فَتَوَلَّ So turn away

Fatawalla
و ل ي
عَنْهُمْ from them

AAanhum

حَتَّىٰ until

hatta

حِينٍ a time

heenin
ح ي ن
١٧٤

وَلِيَ حَانَ


So, turn away from them for some time.

37:175


وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ And see them

Waabsirhum
ب ص ر
فَسَوْفَ so soon

fasawfa

يُبْصِرُونَ they will see

بصُر بصُر


And observe them, soon they will see.

37:176


أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا Then is (it) for Our punishment?

يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ they hasten

عَذُبَ عَجِلَ


Do they seek to hurry with Our punishment?

37:177


فَإِذَا But when

Faitha

نَزَلَ it descends

بِسَاحَتِهِمْ in their territory

bisahatihim
س و ح
فَسَآءَ then evil (will be)

fasaa
س و أ
صَبَاحُ (the) morning

sabahu
ص ب ح
الْمُنذَرِينَ (for) those who were warned

almunthareena
ن ذ ر
١٧٧

نَزَلَ ساح سَا ءَ صَبُحَ نَذَرَ


When it is sent down in their arena, it will be an evil morning for the warned.

وَتَوَلَّ So turn away

Watawalla
و ل ي
عَنْهُمْ from them

حَتَّىٰ for

So, turn away from them for some time.

وَأَبْصِرْ And see

سُبْحَٰنَ Glory

رَبِّكَ (be to) your Lord

الْعِزَّةِ (of) Honor

ع ز ز
عَمَّا above what

AAamma

يَصِفُونَ they attribute

و ص ف
١٨٠

سبح رَبَّ رَبَّ عَزَّ وَصَفَ


Praise for your Rabb, Rabb with the Power, Far away is Allah from every imperfection. (The Most Powerful from what they characterize, and above any need).

وَسَلَامٌ And peace be

Wasalamun

عَلَى upon

الْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers

سلِم رَسِلَ


And Peace (Greetings, Salute) upon the Messengers.

وَالْحَمْدُ And all praise

Waalhamdu
ح م د
لِلّٰهِ (be) to Allah

lillahi
أ ل ه
رَبِّ (the) Lord

الْعَالَمِينَ (of) the worlds

alAAalameena
ع ل م
١٨٢

حَمِدَ إِلَٰه رَبَّ علِم


And all the praise for Allah, Rabb of the universe.
